Photoshop: Multiple/Duplicate updates & Clone Stamp failure, "unknown error"

I'm having frequent problems with the clone stamp tool... at first it told me that I couldn't use it (gave the circle with the slash through it) even though it wasn't selecting a hidden layer. I quit and reopened to make it work... then after compositing two images, and flattening them, trying to use the clone stamp tool threw back an error message saying something along the lines of "unkown problem, clone tool not functioning." For a program that updates almost daily, there have been more glitches than I have ever experienced with any other version of photoshop.

Which product are you using?
Which version?
Which OS version?

And that doesn't sound like a Photoshop error message.

Also, Photoshop family products don't update that often, so I'm not sure why you are seeing frequent updates.

Alright, that means that something is wrong with the updater -- there really have not been that many updates...

I'll try and replicate the problem. I've been using photoshop since version 4, and have never seen it before either.
