I have had problems with the clone tool rotation. I used to be able to see the rotation no matter where on the image I placed the selection but now I can't. This makes it very difficult to get the angle right - I used to take it over to the area I was going to put it and line them up. I recently changed to Catalina but not sure if this related.

Hello, do you mean that the preview does not reflect the rotation?
Or that do not get a preview?
In the second case, make sure to click on: show overlay in the clone source panel (Window - Clone Source)

Here is more info about the previews: https://blogs.adobe.com/jkost/2009/12/previewing_cloning_and_healing.html

Hi - thank you for replying.  The preview isn't reflecting rotation unless I don't move it from the source.  If I move it to the area where I want to use it the preview changes to show the area I have moved it to, but then when I click it the source appears.  This is quite annoying because I used to be able to move the preview close to the area where I wanted to use it so I could get the rotation just right.  I uninstalled and re-installed the program in case I had inadvertently changed the settings - no difference :(  Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Hi - it's off.  Show overlay and clipped are on.  It's weird - until a couple of weeks ago it was working perfectly.

Did you try resetting the clone tool? right-click on its icon on the option bar.
If it does not work, I'd try resetting Photoshop's preferences by holding CMD+OPT+Shift as Photoshop starts...
