I am continually having difficulty with Photoshop hanging and having to force quit.

I am running Photoshop on a 2013 Mac Pro, macOS Sierra 10.12.6.

I am a Creative Cloud photo program subscriber running Photoshop CC 2017, v18.1.1

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Howdy Stan,

What are you doing when Photoshop hangs?  Opening certain files?  Adding text?

We'd love to help, but will need more details.

Thanks,
David

In most cases it happens when I start the program. I either click on the Photoshop icon in the dock or I am attempting to open an image in Photoshop from Lightroom using "Command E." Result is the spinning beach ball.

If you hold down the shift key when you launch Photoshop and choose to skip 3rd party plug-ins, does it launch normally?

Hi Stan,

Did Jeff's suggestion help you out?

If so, then you probably have a 3rd party plugin triggering your problems.  If not, have you tried trashing your Photoshop preferences?

If that doesn't work, how about this...  How many fonts do you have installed on your machine?  What are their sources?  Would you mind running the script found under step #5, here: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-fonts-photoshop.html and sharing with us the results?

Hope that helps,
David

I was able to successfully start Photoshop using Jeffrey's technique. I'm traveling and will try again when return to my desktop.

Many thanks for the assistance.
