I tried posting the actual character itself but for some reason I wasn't allowed to post. So here's to hoping this post actually goes up. I'm just guessing the post was blocked because I posted the Chinese character. Anyways not all of the Chinese characters are working and this one comes up as a rectangle with an X in it.

Howdy,

What you are describing is what happens when the character you're looking for isn't part of the selected font.  So you get a "missing glyph box" aka a "tofu box" which is a rectangle with an X in it.  Change your font to one that supports Chinese.  You can also go to Preferences > Type and check the second from the top in the left column, "Enable Missing Glyph Protection" which will automatically make the font substitutions for you.

Thanks,
David
