Lightroom: Character count for text fields

I would like to suggest for Lightroom that fields such as image 'caption' 'title' etc have a character count, and also to be able to set a maximum value for these fields, I often find myself entering information in these fields and when I upload the images to an agency I have exceeded the maximum characters allowed.

Good idea.

For the mean time, here are some possible compromises:
* Have an "otto-mate" plugin which peruses fields in the background and warns of overflow.
* Have plugin with custom metadata - one item for each critical field containing length - that way you could also see fields that are empty, or short, in library module using metadata filter, for example.
* Have a script (or plugin) to manually check critical field lengths, which you could run prior to finalizing or exporting..
* Have an export filter plugin which checks critical fields prior to export.

All of these types of scripts and/or plugins exist, but none (that I know of) are as yet customized to do exactly what you want, but they could be.. - dunno if it'd be worth it to use a plugin for this sort of thing or if you'd prefer to wait for native support.

I just checked Jeffrey Friedl's Data Explorer plugin - it has support for line count and/or character count for some fields, including title, caption, and headline.
