Lightroom: Changing image selections in grid view

hello all,
(maybe I'm the only one, but) I'm slightly annoyed by the way image selections in Lr's grid view are not de-selected as soon as I click on another image. That is, I have to click twice (not: double-click), to de-select the previous selection, and select other images.
In fact, when assigning metadata to images it did happen to me more frequently than I wished that images were still selected that I thought had been de-selected (so they got a wrong tag). I can imagine that "it's a feature", but it is in contrast to normal behavior of the Mac Finder (or the Win Explorer).
Didn'nt upgrade yet to Lr 5, but experienced this behavior from v. 1-4 (on a Mac).

I suppose I will have to live with it ?
Thanks,
Ysander.

Click in the frame instead of in the picture.

PS - If it's any consolation, I was a couple or few years in before I (somewhat embarrassingly) learned this little jewel-of-a-tip from somebody else in these forums ;-)

thanks Rob,
in fact I did know this (learned it also on this forum, I think).

But the problem is not so much to simply de-select (on the Mac, cmd-Maj-A also deselects all), but to select another image at the same time (like when I wish to metadata-tag one image after the other, I'd like not to have to click first on the frame, then on the next image).
(Then, I do not really see the reason for this behavior of the selection sticking until a second click, but maybe there is one...)
