I keep getting a bug whilst changing modules where Lightroom will not respond and I have to close and reopen. I get the error message below and clicking OK does nothing. I'm using a 2017 iMac running Sierra version 10.12.6, any ideas?

Is it happening when launching Lr in certain module, or while changing to a particular module?
If the behaviour is consistent, then please share the catalog and repro steps so that we can debug the issue.

It justs happens randomly between the Library and Develop modules.  I have lightroom open all of the time so it's not just when it opens.

Having the same issue, running MacBook Pro late 2014, I7, MacOS High Sierra 10.13.1; problem reproduced when deleting rejected images while in develop module then trying to go back to library module.

When this happens on my MacBook Pro there is always a loss of configuration information associated with the problem.

For example, the preference setting for not showing a splash screen on startup keeps reverting to "on". Other configuration settings disappear and have to be reentered.

The loss of configuration settings suggests LR Classic is having file system access problems when the module switch error occurs.

Further, when the module switch error occurs, LR does not show my account name in the Help area. Another broken communication link?

Further information. This is on a late 2103 Mac Book Pro (retina) running High Sierra.

Every three or four LR starts takes we to the welcome screen instead of the last thing I worked on. Clicking OK in the tip results in a screen presentation similar if not identical to the initial screen on a fresh installation. In particular, my account information is missing. Trying to switch to the library causes the Error Changing Modes condition.

Restarting LR usually takes me back to a working session that has my full account info and shows the last picture I worked on.

Why does LR randomly revert to this initial state? It is related to the new LR version being targeted for cloud operation?

In my opinion this is a major flaw in the LR Classic release.

I have exactly the same experience running macOS 10.13.1 and Lr Classic CC build 1142117.

You might rule out any syncing issues with Adobe cloud based file service, because I have no files in it and library to cloud syncing turned off.

Third update. Reinstalling LR Classic (with and without saving user preferences) did not help. Nor did logging out of my account and logging back in.

What seems to help is to wait 5 seconds before selecting a catalog to load.

If I immediately click on a catalog, the program reverts to a welcome screen that does not have any of my account information associated with it. No local files were accessed. The app does nothing.

Waiting a few seconds before clicking on a catalog brings up a working app, with my account tied to it and information gotten out of local files. I tried ten times in a row and waiting 5 seconds is enough to let the program start properly.

I continue to hold the opinion that this is a major flaw in the LR Classic release. It is made worse by Adobe not having tested this interaction between their cloud and their desktop version of LR.

I’m having the exact issues. 2016 iMac 5k running high Sierra. Is there any solution out there? I think I may be getting random cr2 file corruption/damage from this happening.

As I wrote previously I have the same issue running macOS 10.13.1 and Lr Classic CC build 1142117. It's a highly annoying bug and there's hard to tell if any file get corrupt. I've tried starting Lr holding Shift-Alt and clearing all settings and wiping all physical user library files for program settings but for no good.

So after playing around a little with some settings, I’m noticing that if you set a default catalog on open rather than the dialogue box to choose from recent catalogs that I have yet to see the error message. Verdict is still out and will update if something changes.

I have had this problem several times with Classic 7.0.1 and osx 10.13.1. It is ONLY when first opening a catalog.  When this happens is messes up many of the setting in stored in preferences, mainly the Icons on the toolbar I have selected from the dropdown on the right side of the toolbar.  It seems to reset then to the default.  It ALWAYS resets these icons when this happens and may mess up other preferences I have not noticed.

Yeah, I'm seeing it frequently. It's corrupting preferences each time it happens. Also on High Sierra (is anyone seeing it on other OS's?). It looks to me like it's related to startup prefs. Setting a specific default catalog for startup has NOT solved it here.

I also run Light Room Classic on Windows (Fall Creators Update, the current one). The "Error Changing Modules" problem has never occurred there.

One MacOS (High Sierra) the problem occurs randomly, depending on when I first input an action, so it is a timing issue.

My first input is always clicking on the catelog to open.

If I wait 5 seconds before I click then LR Classic works fine but if I click in less time I get a welcome screen for new users. Dismissing the welcome screen takes me to the home screen, but clicking on the Library tab gives me the "Error Changing Modules" message. Clicking on the Develop tab takes me to that module but it can't do anything because no files are selected.

Since this problem came up on the LR Classic release I am assuming the reason for needing to wait is that LR Classic defaults to using cloud settings. It goes to the cloud, finds I have no settings there, and *then* checks settings on the local machine. The wait is necessary for LR to strike out when it checks the cloud.

I have experimented with timing that first click and find that a 5 second delay is good for 100% success.
