Photoshop CC 19.1.1: Images opening unexpectedly small (macOS)

I have a documented the same problem. No matter where I have the tool bar (not shown here, but in these photos, the toolbar is docked), when I open a photo, it opens up smaller even though I have the screen size to open it larger. What can I do to open the photo at maximum size allowable by space?

What version are you running, James? Your issue resembles one that was resolved in the last update of Photoshop, which came out on Feb 12.

Go to Help > System Info to see your version.

Thanks,
Hannah

He came here for my request, so I'm not sure that wasn't single visit here of him. You can try contact him by his original post: https://forums.adobe.com/message/10212039#10212039
There he wrote version he uses and his operating system (as I see his problem is bit different)

Thanks. I can reproduce this issue. Only happens with dual monitors. I've asked engineering to look at it.

Here's a workaround:

1. record an a new action, call it "Fix Zoom"
2. Choose "Insert Menu Item" from the Actions panel fly-out menu
3. Choose View > 100% (or you can choose "Fit on Screen" if you prefer)
4. Stop recording the action
5. Select File > Scripts > Script Events Manager
6. In the dialog click "Enable Events to run scripts/actions"
7. For Photoshop Event, select "Open Document"
8. Click the radio button next to Action and navigate to your action "Fix Zoom" from the pop-up menus
9. Click (add) from the right column. Then click (Done)

Any document you open will zoom to a more desired level.

Thank you for your reply and for a "workaround" but I never (or rarely) open an image that way. I either double click on it from the folder it's in or drag it onto Photoshop in the dock or the shortcut I have on every window in the Finder. I guess I will wait for the fix.
Thanks again.

I just installed Photoshop CC 2018 yesterday morning and having this same issue. 2 Monitors (Macbook Pro connected to 2nd Display)

Only workaround I can think of right now is assigning keyboard shortcuts to the Window menu > Arrange > Match All & Cascade

I first zoom on one image the way I want it, then use my new assigned shortcut keys to Match All and Cascade. Not the ideal solution but I need to work and it seems to be working.

The only shortcuts I could think of that had no conflict with, or look similar to, other shortcuts were Shift + Command + 1 and Shift + Command + 0

*The only workaround, besides Jeffery Tranberry's workaround. That one worked for me - even from opening from file folders in finder windows. I was offering James another solution if the other workaround doesn't work for him.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for being patient. This issue will be resolved in the next update to Photoshop.

NOPE. 19.1.4 did NOT fix this problem. Dual monitors. File opens a small image instead of the correct size as it used to.
So, we had something that worked correctly. Then it was broken. And it remains broken. This isn't good. I can only assume it will never be fixed. Does this portend the future of Photoshop? Break and not fix?

I never had this problem before. Unfortunately, I just installed 19.1.3 on the Mac and this issue suddenly appeared. I do have dual monitors. It's a really annoying bug. I did implement the action fix, but would prefer that the bug be fixed.

With the 19.1.3 update on MacOS 10.13.4 and two monitors, I don't have this issue anymore. However, if I have my workspace in full screen mode and open a second image, it opens smaller and has a black border on the right and bottom of the image.  I can fix it pretty easily by switching between open documents, but I was  just mentioning it.

I should mention that I'm running OS 10.12.6. So it seems that 19.1.3 fixed the issue with some and created the issue with others.

This is still happening for me, Photoshop version 19.1.3. I'm using Windows 10, not OSX, but I guess from reading the above it doesn't matter.
I'm opening images by dragging them onto the Photoshop window, and I am using 3 monitors. This never happened before this update.

It's interesting that you're seeing this with three monitors. We tested it with two, so I will be curious to hear if the next update resolves it for you. Someone will post to this thread when that update is available.

Thank you,
Hannah

This is still happening to me as well with 2 monitors.

And then something similar happens when I move the image to the 2nd monitor and zoom into the image using "Resize Windows to Fit" or Command + 0 (Fit on Screen). The image is automatically moved to the first monitor (zoom is applied and squeezed in the space available next to the windows/palettes).

They should also do something with your other problem reffered to 2 monitors:

Same small window on the top corner for Elements:

- since the last Windows 10 (1803) update
- when the option to 'open documents in floating windows in expert mode' is selected
- on single monitors
- with Elements 2018 and 15, not 14
- no workaround found.
https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2490220We do know that Elements inherits code from older Photoshop versions... It happened that Elements inherited code and bugs from older Photoshop versions after the bugs were corrected in Photoshop.

Same symptom!

Well, another update, 19.1.5 and another update that doesn't fix this problem. Coult 19.1.6 be the one. Frankly, I doubt it. If the problem could be fixed, it would have by now. Ergo, it's a permanent unfixable bug. Just have to get used to it. Sure am glad I am paying for a subscription to this product.

Hi Jerry,

I'm am a QE on the Photoshop team and from what we understand of how to reproduce this issue, it was fixed in 19.1.3. If there is a different environment/series of actions that cause the same problem, we would like to submit it and get it resolved. If you would like to show us the problem by sending screen captures of what you're seeing, with the steps that you took before it happened and then go to Help > System Info and then copy/paste the contents of that into an email. Please send any/all of that to my email below and I'll file a new case on it.

Thanks,
Hannah

That's wierd what happens in this topic. 4 months ago that was said this issue was solved in 19.1.1. Then 3 months ago same person said it (as it could arise with 19.1.2) will be resovled in 19.1.4 but it wasn't. There was siimilar problem that yielded alike result, and that was solved in fact. It looked like they sloved also dual monitor problem so it should work in 19.1.4. Someone reported though he uses 3 monitors and he's experiencing it too in 19.1.3. What I read here, a bug caused by more monitors had to be possibly fixed in 19.1.5 but it wasn't while in 19.1.4 it still occured for you, so for sual monitor. Now it continues :)

Are you still seeing this issue? If you are we would like to get it resolved. It helps to have the environment (Help > System Info), screen captures and the steps that you took before you saw it. I was one of the engineers who tested this and from the steps/environment we were aware of, we saw it resolved in 19.1.3. I assume there must be a different set of circumstances where it still happens, but since we aren't seeing it we need more information.

Thanks,
Hannah

Fot me all is okey as I don't use more than one screen. The bug I reported that had similar / alike effect was solved. I followed this theard and other one related since that was close of my problem. I waited long my bug was fixed, so seeing others have to wait even longer made me to comment this situation. Perhaps there is other cause it happens for Jerry Goldstein, but first thought was that's still on todo list.

Yup, I still have the problem. It's really bad. I have a MacBook Pro set up with a 2nd Monitor. All my images keep opening in the smaller monitor, the laptop and very small. No matter what I do, even when I fit to screen in the 2nd big monitor, the image goes back to the laptop as a small image. Tedious in my workflow. I cant use Cmd + 0 any more and other things like resizing Cmd with +/-

Hannah Nicollet  , do you want a copy paste of system info or just the first two screenshots? It's a lot.
