CC 2014 crashing repeatedly when using layer masks in WIN 8.1 x64 environment. Modifying one single layer/file works perfectly but any more advance features crashes PS every time. This started after latest Win update. Any idea how to fix this or when there could be a fix. Now cannot really use PS :(

What does the detailed crash report say? (check the system event viewer for the details)

Hi, checked the video driver and my manufacture's own upgrade software says no updates available. Then went to their pages and checked all the available driver updates, downloaded the newest available and while trying to install it it sais that I have a newer driver already installed. So did not install it for now (as an downgrade).

Then started PS with shift key down. Opened 3 images as layers in PS and started working, but unfortunately did not take long for PS to crash again. Repeated this 2 times in order to be sure...

double checked the situation from computer manufactures pages as Intel driver update utility says the following": A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer. The Intel® Driver Update Utility is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues. Contact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer."

Toshiba recommending following driver to be installed: 16/06/14
Display Driver
Intel Windows 8.1 - 64 Bit 10.18.10.3308 World Wide

I have the driver version installed: 10.18.10.3345

so should I downgrade the driver?

I downgraded my Intel display driver from 10.18.10.3345 to computer manufacturer's recommended Display Driver
Intel Windows 8.1 - 64 Bit 10.18.10.3308
and run the tests again. Unfortunately the PS was still crashing even when started without plugins (shift-key held while opening). Then reset the preferences on PS and retested and now system seems to be stable again. :)

Ignore Toshiba (a system builder) and go directly to the GPU maker (Intel) website. You can usually update using the "have disk" method of specifying the driver.

did not have enough courage to do so as Intel was making it clear that if done so system can become unstable..but I got it working so I am happy for now :)
