Case sensitive XMP files

I don't understand why I couldn't input any detail in my post above.

When Connect to a NAS volume, Lightroom is writing lowercase .xmp files instead of adding to the .XMP sidecar files that are already present. It's clearly a case sensitivity issue. 

If I am on a local drive, or USB/Thunderbolt attached storage, it writes to the .XMP fine.

It appears to be an issue while connected to network storage. Support says that network storage isn't supported. It clearly isn't a permissions issue, it can write it's own .xmp just fine. And if network storage isn't supported in 2019, I'm at a loss, because I'm a media production engineer and everything we do for work is over network storage with Adobe products.
