Carousel. How will it work with Lightroom? Will it scan your hard drive for images (soft import), leaving them where they are and monitoring them for adjustments - or will you be required hard import them into the app? Will there be a Carousel module inside Lightroom? The limited amount of literature suggests it would supplant Lightroom as an editing and adjustment tool - but with limited adjustment tools. Also - it only makes reference to jpegs - does it support any other file formats? Does it suport video or only photos?

I doubt it will "supplant" Lightroom for editing and adjustment. It is clearly not intended to be a professional quality tool, but rather a way of maintaining the shoebox of digital images for a wider audience.

Carousel isn't currently linked to Lightroom in any way, other than using some of the technology in the background. That may change at some time in the future, but at the moment, at least, it's entirely separate.

At this point it's targeted at JPEG shooters, who probably know nothing about Lightroom.

It's a first rung on the ladder, albeit a remarkable a first step. It'll be fascinating to see what the future holds.

I think Carousel is great in premise. Cloud storage for photos is long past-due. The ability for me to 'sync' a library with my wife is long-past due. Right now, I have most of our photos on my iMac in Aperture, and she has her photos in iPhoto on her laptop. To be able to combine them would be incredible.

That said, Carousel is almost there — almost being the key word. I can import all my photos to Carousel and then my wife and I can share photos, awesome. However, I have to import new photos to carousel every time I import new photos to my computer?

That last part is really hard to believe. How could all the smart people at Adobe have overlooked that? To me, that's basic functionality.

I can see that this wouldn't play well with Aperture or iPhoto. Sure. I like Aperture, but I'm not married to it and it wouldn't take much to convince me to pony up for Lightroom. I say that even considering that it is priced more than 4x a comparable product (Aperture).

If you want to tie this to Lightroom, fine, I'd buy Lightroom immediately. If you want to have Carousel read from a certain folder (like dropbox), even better.

It's too bad, there is a huge need for something like Carousel that is well-thought out.
