I have just finished installing the Adobe Photoshop CS6 trial, Version 13.0 X64 Extended. Upon launching the software, I notice immediately that the canvas is acting up. Portions of the canvas display are filled with the transparency pattern, while others are filled with the white canvas I selected as a default. Upon marking the canvass in any way with the brush tool, etc, the available pixel data (even from files I chose to open as a test) is replaced with the transparency pattern. It may be worth noting that the thumbnail previews in the layers panel do update appropriately with the correct alterations based on my inputs.
As I am running the trial, I have not yet uninstalled my current CS3 Master Collection Software, could that cause a conflict? I have restarted the program in standard and 64 bit, to no avail. There is no mention of this issue in the FAQs, but hopefully it is a bug that has already been recognized. Is there a was to resolve this issue, preferably without uninstalling my CS3 software until I have decided to upgrade?
Thank you in advance for any thoughts, advice, and directives.

Sounds like you're seeing problems with your video card driver.
Have you updated your video card driver from the GPU maker's website recently?
And have you tried turning off GPU support in Photoshop preferences (then relaunching)?
No, each version is independent -- CS3 wouldn't cause a conflict.
What you're describing is pretty common bug in older video card drivers.

Setting Edit - Preferences - General - Performance - Advance Settings (for Graphic Processor) to either Normal or Basic seems to solve the problem. (Thanks Chris for leading me to this in your first post)

OK, that means that your video card driver has a problem - but you have a workaround for now.
Have you updated the driver from the GPU maker's website?
If you're running the latest driver, have you reported the problem to the GPU maker?

Yes - in fact there was an new update up today and I installed it before initiating this procedure. Ia it possible that the installed video card is too weak to fully handle the task? (It is NVIDIA GeForce GT 220)

It's possible, but then the driver should tell Photoshop to disable the features.
Something isn't quite right with the driver - it says it's capable, but then it fails.

Interesting. Thank you so much. I was having the same problems with Photoshop CC (NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M/PCIe/SSE2) on Windows 7. Changed Performance to Normal and everything works now.

You probably still need to update your video card driver from NVidia. But we have had problems with the last couple of NVidia drivers, and are working with them to get the bugs fixed.

I have a similar problem with nvidia GeForce GT 330M and Chris has given the reply "video card problem".
I've installed the latest driver but problem persisting :-(
No answer from nvidia, no answer from sony, unusefull answer ( at least for me ) from adobe.
Frustrated!

Looks like updating your drivers is the worst thing you can do. I have GeForce GT 330M and the last driver PS is working good with is 275.33 (Win7-x64) If I upgrade to a later version I get the transparency pattern.

I got a similar reply over at the nvidia forum (was it you, michael?):
"I have two machines with GeForce 330M (Dell Vostro 3700) both running Adobe CS (CS5.5 and CS6) and have the same problem. If I try to set the Drawing Mode to Advance I see transparent square(s) after I open an image. The good news is that you can install older driver (275.33-notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-international-whql) and everything will work fine but I'd say it's just a temporary patch. "
the usual adobe mantra is: "Install the latest driver, install the latest driver, install the latest driver, ..."
i'm willing to give it a try, but but how to roll back? just install the above driver? have no idea...

NVidia is working on the problem. You could try rolling back the driver (uninstall the current one, then install the older one), or you can just turn the GPU settings down to normal or basic until a new driver is ready.

good to hear that nvidia is working on the problem! than i'll wait patiently for an update. meanwhile setting the cs6 gpu setup to "normal" avoids trouble.

When you open photoshop in windows 7, the very first document you create/open shows some artifacts on screen, like invisible areas as you can see on the screen.

Often when opening an image in CS6 I get a large section of the image missing. Zooming in or out can remedy it but it cannot go back to the original zoom ratio without the same problem returning.

General Trouble shooting for Video card driver issues.
A: Update to the latest drivers.
Does that solve the problem?
B:
1. Open Preferences
2. Performance Panel
3. Click on Advanced Settings
4. Set mode to Basic
5. Reopen image or restart PS
Does that solve the problem?
C:
1. Open Preferences
2. Performance Panel
3. Turn OFF OGL all together.
4. Reopen image or restart PS
Does that solve the problem. If this solves the problem you now know that it is indeed a OGL/GPU driver problem. See step A.
D:
1. Unplug any additional monitors.
Does that solve the problem?
E:
1. If you have two physical cards make sure they are not different brands. We have seen issues with mixing drivers.
F:
1. On some laptops there is an option to run in low power GPU mode. For example you can run on an Intel chip when on battery to conserve power and a ATI/nVidia chip when plugged in. Sometimes the low power GPU can cause PS to not work correctly.
We do realize that sometimes new drivers can cause problems. If you run into this issue going back to the driver before the latest can solve these types of problems. In general we recommend running latest drivers.

Photoshop regularly show pats of an image as 'transparent' after loading, or duplicates parts. After doing an edit it's normal again.
Only happens when "Use graphics processor" is enabled (Drawing mode "advanced"). CS6 Extended, Windows 7 64bit. Nvidia Gforce GT 240.

Just installed PS-CS6.
Graphic-Card GeForce GT 220, Driver 301.42
When working in Lightroom 4.1 and like to work on a File in PS-CS6, then the Image opens after a while im PS.
The image is then not in all resolutions correctly displayed. I. E. 25%=ok, 33% ng, 50% ng, 66% ok.
WHAT IS THE REASON FOR THIS Phenomenon?
I can upload Screenshopts for you where you can see the phenomenon.

After installing the driver 304.79 beta, the problem has gone!
Thanks a lot for the help!

From my post above you see that I had similar problems with GeForce GT 330M and driver 301.42. I've installed the driver 304.79 beta and problems are gone!
Inside PS I set the preferences to Mode > Advanced, switched OpenCL ON and everything works well. With the 301.42 driver I had to use Mode > Basic to avoid seeing these blocks of transperancy. So far no other issues with the beta.

Confirming that 304.79 beta resolves the problem on my GeForce GT 220 (Win 7-64). I had been running the 301.42 driver.
I had been experiencing this problem ever since installing PS CS6. Not sure if I was using any earlier driver releases than 301.42, but can confirm that the 304.79 beta resolves this problem (and I haven't noted any new issues).
Glad I saw this post!

The flashing is really bad, the display keeps switching between the grey transparency background and black, when scrolling, and the screen image generally flashes.
Just installed CS6 Extended, according to Device Manager, I have Intel HD Graphics 3000. Have updated the graphics driver.
I did find a fix, by chance, I used CTRL+ALT+an arrow key, to rotate the actual display, turning the display upside down and back again settles things down a lot so I can at least use the software.
Have not had problems with previous versions.

Win 7x64 dual GeForce 570 driver version:314.07
Same problem. The files even save for web that way. On another computer, same setup, same drivers, CS5, no problem. I immediately regret the update.

It is still a video driver bug, not a Photoshop bug.
Either you have leftover bits of older drivers on your system, or you still need to get updated drivers from your GPU maker.

Hello
I am encountering the same problem, both on OSX and windows 8.
GPU is GTX670 ftw (EVGA), fully updated.
I have *fully disabled* graphics acceleration but the problem persists.
What else can I do? I'm in bad need for photoshop right now, got a deadline to make. Please get to me.
Thanks in advance!

That stil looks like a driver bug. Update your video card driver from the GPU maker's website (NOT Microsoft, not the system builder).
And did you restart Photoshop after disabling the GPU?

I updated the drivers directly from the Nvidia website.
I rebooted, so I guess that's as good as restarting photoshop. What's interesting is that the problem occurs both on OSX and windows 8 (dual boot). I have discovered that it also occurs on my secondary computer. (Also Nvidia, but GTX660).
Any clues? Could this be related to the files I'm using?

We haven't seen this happen on OS X, and only on Windows due to bugs in video card drivers.

We haven't seen this happen on OS X. And on Windows, it has always been due to bugs in video card drivers.
Please double check that you have all the Photoshop updates.
And double check the opacity on your Layer 0 (if it is zero, then that preview is correct).

Thanks. Obviously I checked the opacity. It's a recurring problem, I am not new to photoshop btw :). Besides, sometimes it's not a whole layer that dissapears like in the example, usually it's a (set of) random rectangle(s).
Something else that I noticed is, that sometimes parts of the layers are treated as transparent (magic wand clearly outlines straight borders, copy-pasting from such a part results in transparency, but the contents are still visible). It's the first phase of the problem, usually the layer goes fully transparent shortly after.
Photoshop is fully updated. Besides, if it's a GPU related problem, disableing acceleration would fix it, right?
I tested the RAM en graphics memory thoroughly, even tried swapping sticks out.
(+ it happens on 2 different machines)
The problem usually occurs when dublicating a layer, copy pasting between documents, opening or saving.

OK, then it is definitely a GPU driver problem of some kind.
You may have problems with old bits of drivers being left on your system, or a new bug with your drivers that hasn't been fixed yet.
Please work with your GPU maker to debug your drivers.
