Can't work seemlessly between Lightroom and Photoshop

I am using Lightroom and Photoshop on a PC under Windows 7. Latest versions of all software. When I am in LR and right click on a photo in library or develop model and edit in cs5 and then the photo opens in CS5 many of the editing options are grayed out. If I open the same photo in Photoshop through mini bridge, all of those options are available to me. An example of options that aren't available if I open the picture from Lightroom are: under the Filter Menu - Artistic, Brush Strokes, Distort, Pixelate, Sketch, etc. They ARE available if I open the same photo from mini bridge. I have the problem if I open a copy with lightroom adjustments. If I open a jpg original from LR and edit in PS, all of these options are available. If I open a jpg copy from LR and edit in PS, these options are available as well. If I open a Cannon Raw file (.CR2) from LR to edit in photoshop CS5, it opens without asking the question of original or copy and the options are NOT available. If I open the same photo from minibridge in PS, they are. If I open a .CS2 file to edit as a smart object in PS, the options are not available. Again if I open any file directy in PS from minibridge all these editing options are available. Is this a bug, or is my LR catalog corrupt. The integrity of the catalog is checked and backed up daily. I checked on-line and this seems to be an unfixed bug that has been around for years. Any intention of fixing it? It's a pain not to be able to go back and forth between LR an PS. Help!

It looks like you configured LR to pass photos as 16-bit TIFFs oder PSDs to Photoshop. Depending on the PS version, certain filters do not work in 16 bit. If you need these filters, convert the photo to 8 bit in PS, or configure LR to use 8 bit only (don't do that if tonal resolution is generally important for you).

Edit: Quote: "If I open a jpg original from LR and edit in PS, all of these options are available": Because a JPEG is always in 8 bit only, and because it is opened as original, i.e. directly by PS, it will also be opended as 8 bit in PS, so all filters are available. However, if you open a photo as a copy with LR adjustments, LR will pass it through ACR in order to open it in PS, and in that case, the above mentioned options apply for the picture format and whether 8 oder 16 bits are used.

Quote: "If I open ... a CR2 from LR to edit in PS CS5, it opens without asking the question of original or copy": This is because the question would make no sense. The only way to open a raw file from LR in PS is to pass it throught ACR first. So it always must be a "copy" (or, to be more precise, a newly developed "instance" of the original raw file).

I hope that answers your questions, at least partially. From my point of view, it seems that your catalog is not corrupt and everything is working as it should be.

P.S. Quote: "I checked on-line and this seems to be an unfixed bug that has been around for years" - do you have a link, e.g. to the adobe forums or to the feedback forum?

LRuser24... Thank you. I changed my LR preferences to pass photos as 8 bit tiffs to PS and all options are available. You were right on! Thanks a million!
