Downloaded Carousel today. Can't import from either iPhoto or Aperture. When I hit the + button, and look for 'Photos' in the menu on the left, iPhoto and Aperture are like 'not visible at full strength', indicating that they are not selectable.

I have the very last versions of both programs (see pics):

Any idea what could be wrong??

Thanks!

If you click the + sign do you see Media listed in the left like this:

Alternatively, (and I find this a little easier) launch iPhoto and just drag and drop from iPhoto onto Carousel's timeline view.

Thanks for the quick response Champ :-) And yes, I do see the media listed, just took a screenshot of PART of the window, cause of privacy reasons.

The dragging and dropping from iPhoto and Aperture works. In Aperture I will probably have to change the settings to export the original quality, can look into that.

But another more important thing: Carousel doesn't seem to import RAW/NEF files. Is that normal? On the Carousel promo film I see people with DLSR cameras taking pictures...

Is there some place where I could see what file formats are supported or not??

Thanks a lot Champ :-) :-)

Only JPG is supported at this time, and you can call me Rob :)

Haha, thought it was a bit strange already to be called 'Champ', but had never seen a badge like that before, only the green ones with actual names; get the whole idea now :-) :-) :-)!!

And besides: still strange that the 'normal' way to import doesn't work, isn't it...?

Yes. So, if you see Media on the left and Photos under that, what happens when you click Photos?

AHA! Wait, so: I did it wrong all the time. Didn't see that 'media' icon. Thought I had to go through the 'Pictures' folder.

Completely understand it now, and it works, thanks a bunch ROB :-)!

I drag directly the whole aperture library (more than 20000 pics) onto carousel's but unfortunately after more than 1 day importin not all files are imported. All pics after 31dec 2010 are not imported, why?

Select all the photo is not avaible cmd-a, why?

@face, based on our discussion on twitter, it sounds like the pictures did get imported? If not, what is your upload speed? If you press the "View Status" button, what do you see?

I see all files are up to date.
The odd is that it was not possible to use a select all command to upload all photo so that i had to use drag/drop the whole Aperture database directly into Carousel
Twitter which is the exactly address for Carousel users?

@AdobeCarousel is the official twitter account. I sometimes answer stuff from my personal account if I see it. It's possible that I was confusing you with someone I was working with on twitter who had a very similar question. Dragging/Dropping is the easiest way to import large libraries of files with the current version.

Kevin, no i was not me on twitter.
Do you think you could improve the importing feature adding a simple cmd-a to select the whole pics of Aperture library?

On other hand why my library was not imported correctly?
I try to open Aperture during the more_than_1_day copying process into Carousel but Aperture freeze so i had to force closing: that probably caused the lack of copying from 1st of january 2011?

quite possibly. It may be simpler for such a large import to drop the folders with images into carousel into the app rather than going through the importing process. I routinely drop 20,000+ image libraries into the app while we are working on it with never a dropped image or hung process.

i continue to have problem importing Aperture database into Carousel.
I've select all the photo in Aperture from within Carousel +
After one night of importing i see in the morning the message in attach.
My database is really more larger than that, also considering duplicates.
Now the status in Carousel saw Uploading Originals 2903, what means ?
That new 2903 photo in addition to 5745 will be added ???
I'm totally confused and frustrated ...

Why don't you just start over Face? Make a second Carousel, delete the first one, and try again...

i've created at least 5 Carousel in these past 3 days.
I'm exausted ...
It's obvious that actually Carousel is too young to be used ....
Don't take me wrong, i love the idea, but it's really too 'acerb' for now.

Haha, I can understand... But it could be your Aperture too, couldn't it? Personally I don't think I will use carousel either, but just because you can only sort on date, not on subject, which put your carefully selected folders all over the place! Maybe in a future version, when I can use my Aperture Library as it IS. But I guess Apple will come with something in iCloud too at some point...

Hi Toby, i'm strongly hope that Apple will improve some iCloud functionality to Aperture/iPhoto soon.
The actual streaming photo feature introduced with iCloud/iOS5 works like a charm ...
