LIGHTROOM: Can't manage keywords on images in "deleted photos to remove" section of Publish Services

When viewing photos using a Publish Service Collection, and I select some "published" photos and hit the delete key, they move to the "deleted photos to remove" section of the collection which is correct.

However, once they move there the Keyword List and Keywording panels no longer show what keywords those photos have and I cannot add or remove keywords using the Keyword List, Keywording Panel or any other method that I know of.

This is quite problematic as I need to maintain keywords on images that are queued for deletion in the Publish Service.

Hi Dan,

When you move photos to the "Deleted photos to remove" section, they are in sort of a half-way state. Technically, they aren't part of the collection anymore once they land in that section.

The keyword data is still present for the photos, but you need to view them outside the collection to see the keywords.

Yes. That's my problem! Once I select the photos I want to remove from the Publish Service, I need to adjust their keywords while they are still in the the "Deleted to remove" section as once I hit the Publish button and they disappear from the Publish Service collection I no longer have any way to identify that subset of images.

The behavior of LR is odd in this regard. I can still select the photos in the collection so I should be able see and set keywords, change star ratings, update metadata, etc. Just as I could the instant before I hit "delete". The fact that the image(s) are pending removal from the publish service should not prevent me from doing these things.

As it stand now the process is very complicated. Let's say I select 25 images in a Publish Service Collection to remove from the Publish Service. Now I want to set a Keyword for those 25 such as "removed from xyz Publish Service". The only way I know how to do this is write down the file name of the 1st image. Then go to the folder it lives in (or All Photos) and add a text filter for the file name I wrote down. Then select the image and add the KW. Now I go back to the publish service collection and repeat the process for image number 2 through 25. This is a real cumbersome process, and I think is what you're proposing, but I don't know any other. It get's even more difficult is the image is inside a collapsed stack whee the file name filter can't find it and I then have to expand all stacks in the images' folder to boot.

What I want to do is select all 25 images when they're in the "Deleted to remove" section and add them to the key word (that's 3 clicks total for the entire group - 10 seconds no matter how many images are involved vs about half a minute per image.

Vote #2 is mine, but in the mean time:

Just drag the deleted photos into a temp collection (e.g. quick collection) to do your maintenance.

Rob,

Thanks for the suggestion - it's a good one and will work for me. I had tried selecting the images and hitting "B" to add them to the quick collection but that is turned off as well for images in the "delete to be removed" section - hadn't thought about dragging to one of my own collections.

Thanks for the good idea.
