Photoshop: Can't save my work because another application has the file open on Windows (3rd party sync app)

Hello, I can't save my work anymore.This is the message I get: "Could not save as "filename.psd" because the file is already in use or left open by another application."Even 'save as' does not help, the file is not left open or in use by another app!I'm experiance this for the first time since version CC 2015.Please need help.Wim

Yes, the file is being held open by another application - or, at least, the OS thinks so and is reporting that to Photoshop (which passes along the error from the OS so you can fix it).

It could be a problem on a file server, or a thumbnailing application, and sometimes even the Windows Explorer will leave files open (especially when using thumbnailing shell extensions, due to an old bug in the shell extension API). We've also seen some applications hold files open after placing them into the application (InDesign had a bug like that for a while).

But you need to figure out what has the file open, or save to a different filename to avoid conflicting with whatever other application has the file open.

Thanks for the quick response!

I think I found what held the file open.
It's the auto-backup options of my backup software (Netbak Replicator).
Now I turn of the auto-backup option and switched to scheduled backup.

I can save my files now, no problem!
