The "Replace missing fonts" dialog that appears on a document open doesn't actually allow you to choose any fonts besides Myriad Regular. This completely breaks the font weights in the whole design and there's no way to actually choose a suitable replacement. This problem has existed for years without Adobe addressing it.

Yes you are right and I created script which can fix it and as a bonus you can remap all fonts not only missing fonts... and next bonus you can change only selected layers not whole document and as a bonus you can see font usage data.

Isn't this dialog box just to let you know that the fonts are not currently installed?  It's up to us to close the document, installed the missing fonts, and then re-open the document.

No it is not. In menu this is with name "Resolve missing fonts..." so it should resolve your problem not just show info.

This was intended from marketing as a way how to force users to use paid Typekit.

TypeKit is included with CC and the dialog box is able to resolve missing TypeKit fonts (I believe TypeKit has to be enabled in your Creative Cloud Desktop app).

As fonts are licensed for use at the system level by the user, how would you propose Adobe go about purchasing and installing fonts that the user has not purchased and installed themselves?

Perhaps Adobe should partner with font creators to sell their fonts when this dialog box appears. So, let’ say one opens their document and Big House is missing. A dialog box would appear asking, “Would you like to putchase Big House from Font House now for $350?”

That would make an excellent feature request.

Hi James,

What version of Photoshop are you running and what on which OS? In Photoshop if you would go into Help > System Info and return the top line.

Thank you,
Hannah
