I came here from Adobe Japanese user forum.
There is a report that LR classic can't import m2ts files on Windows 7.
I tested importing m2ts on my Windows 7 PC and failed, too.

"An unknown error has occurred while reading the video file. "

Mac can import m2ts with no problem.

Is there any additional requirements for importing m2ts videos on Windows?

Hi Tukemen,

Do your m2ts files have Dolby audio?

Hi Smit, thank you for your reply.

I have no idea about audio format.

How can I confirm whether Dolby or not?

I would like anyone to test importing m2ts on Windows 7.

m2ts sample files are availabe on this website.

On Mac platform, I could import these files with no problem.

Does not work with LR 7.3.1 on Windows 7 due to use of AC-3 Dolby audio. See this post that explains Adobe has moved to native OS support presumably due to licensing issues. Apparently both OS X and Windows 8 & 10 provide Dolby audio codecs natively, but not Windows 7. Perhaps Smit Keniya can provide more details and possible workarounds for Windows 7.

That is correct. Tukemen, your files use Dolby audio and as win7 does not have inbuilt support for decoding Dolby Audio, Currectly our recommendation is to upgrade to Win8 or Win10.

Todd, Smit,

Thank you for your support. I understand the current situation.

I think this limitation should be noted expressly on above document.
A lot of JP users misunderstand that LR Classic/LRCC can import m2ts files correctly on every platfrom.

Smit, would it be possible to allow import of Dolby audio encoded video files into LR on Windows 7 with a warning message. This would allow using LR for asset management and the ability to view the video without sound. Adobe Premiere 2018 has the same issue (no sound), but allows import with a warning. Just a suggestion since there are still a lot of LR users on Windows 7. It might help to ease the pain until they upgrade to Windows 10. Just a suggestion.

Even though the user updated his OS version to Windows 10 as you recommended, he still cannot import m2ts.
On another PC, which is clean installed Windows 10, it's possible to import m2ts.
I believe that LR Classic on Windows 10 should import all m2ts regardless of whether updated or clean installed.
Or, do we need some additional steps to import m2ts on updated Windows 10?

Ideally one should be able to import the video with Dolby audio on any windows 10.

I am not sure what is causing this issue. I will try to update a Win7 to Win10 on our end and try this. I will let you know on this.
