Elements 13.1: Can't generate panoramas (Mac OS 10.9.x)

Since upgrading to Elements Version 13.1(20150130.m.66724) x64 it freezes then crashes whenever I try to create a panorama. Operating system is OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks on a mid 2009 2.53 gig Macbook Pro with 4 gig of RAM. Have had no trouble creating panoramas with Elements 8, 10 and the original 13. The problem only happened when I stupidly updated when a pop up appeared as I started the app one day.
I also have an 11" Macbook Air running Yosemite and it has no problems creating panos in Elements 13.1. Upgrading the operating system on the Macbook Pro is not an option as even Mavericks slowed it down considerably.

Hi Graham, what does the crash log have in it?

Does the crash happen with all sets of files?

Have you tried restoring Elements prefs?

All I get is a message in the Mac "Force Quit Application" window that says "Photoshop Elements 13 Editor no longer responding. The only alternative then is to force quit the app and restart it.

However I have reset Elements Prefs as per your suggestion and it now generates pano's so thank you for your help.

OK, so you're not crashing - the application is just hung/frozen.
Can you sample the application from the Activity Monitor to see where it is hanging?
