Can't copy text to clipboard from the latest Photoshop CC 2014.

- Windows 8.1
- The Export clipboard is ticked in preferences.
- Example: I can't copy from inside Photoshop (from a text box already in Photoshop), and then paste it in an other text box in the same Photoshop document.
- I can paste into Photoshop from other programs like browsers or Illustrator
- Illustrator and other Adobe programs works fine: there is no such issue there.
- Reinstalled Photoshop today, the problem still persist.

Thanks for any solutions.

Hi Balazs,

What kind of keyboard are you running?  Are you trying to use CNTRL+C to copy and CNTRL+V to paste?  Do you get this with all text or just specific snippets?  Is the text in English or some other language?  Are you sure both locations are using a font that can correctly represent these characters?  What happens when you try to Paste?  Is the option enabled?

Thanks,
David

Hi David!

What kind of keyboard are you running?
– Icon7 Rondo, Hungarian version (nothing special about the keyboard as I use this exact same version at another PC (Windows 7, same Photoshop CC 2014) and there is no such problem)

Are you trying to use CNTRL+C to copy and CNTRL+V to paste?
– Yes, but I can't paste text with the context menu command neither, as I can't copy with ctrl+C to the clipboard from inside Photoshop.

Do you get this with all text or just specific snippets? Is the text in English or some other language?
– Yes, with all texts. English or other language, it doesn't seem to matter: so the problem is not with some special character.

Are you sure both locations are using a font that can correctly represent these characters?
– Yes, it happens with any font. And because it happens inside Photoshop it shouldn't be a problem: because the issue occurs only when I try to copy text which is already in the same PS document. (Note: I can copy paste text from other programs)

What happens when you try to Paste? Is the option enabled?
– Yes, the Export clipboard is ticked in preferences. When I try to paste something I copied from the same Photoshop document, it copies the last thing in the clipboard. Usually it is something I copied from another program earlier, like browser or Illustrator.

Hiya Balazs,

I'm slightly concerned about the keyboard, if only because CNTRL+C doesn't work.  I worked on keyboard shortcuts when we first introduced them and I personally tested Hungarian layouts to make sure they work.  Which kind of Hungarian layout are you using?  Can you cut and copy and paste in other apps using this keyboard?

That the context menu doesn't appear could be a problem with your setup or just that the clipboard is empty.  If the initial Cut or Copy command isn't recognized by PS, then no context menu isn't a surprise.

Would you humor me and try "this is a test" using the Myriad Pro font?  It'll probably also have an issue, but I just want to rule out a set of possibilities.

Would you be interested in doing a web-hosted screenshare?  All you need is an internet connection and a browser.  You might be asked to download an Adobe applet to facilitate things, but that's it.  If you have a microphone, we can use that to talk or I can give you a toll-free phone number to call.  I'm gonna guess that you're actually in Hungary, thus +9 hours from me -- I'm in San Jose, California and on Pacific Time.  I'm free for the next half hour (probably way too short of notice) or after 10pm your time today.  Otherwise, we can try and schedule something -- have no fear, I actually do this all the time.  8-)

Thanks,
David

Hi David!

Some clarification about the issue:
The Ctrl+C works in any other programs, so it's not the Hungarian keyboard (with QWERTZ). The context menu appears just fine, the problem is that I couldn't copy to the clipboard from PS.

But your "If the initial Cut or Copy command isn't recognized by PS" got me thinking if the shortcut itself is the problem.

So I went to Keyboard shortcuts and Menus, and strangely Edit/Copy had F3 associated with it. I use Photoshop for ten years now and I never changed that shortcut, not even recently :) Strange, because I would remember that I changed that, it's not something you can mess with a couple of incidental clicks or key strokes.

So for anyone having the same issue: check your Keyboard shortcuts and if it is for some reason changed, set it back to Ctrl+C or anything you like and know.

Howdy Balazs,

Thanks for letting us know the solution to your mystery.  I've no idea the cause of your keyboard change as that's NOT something we do.  At least the problems is all solved though.

Köszi,
David
