Lightroom: Can't access the Export dialogue

  • 12
  • Problem
  • Updated 2 years ago
  • (Edited)
When I click the Export button nothing happens.
If I select File/Export... nothing happens
But, if I choose File/Export with Preset and a preset, the export works correctly.

I can't access the Export dialogue.

This issue started with the latest release, and was not fixed by follow-up patch.

Can you try something for me Peter, just as a test? Try going to File menu > New Catalog and just create a new catalog on the desktop, import a couple of photos and see if Export works in that catalog? You can then go back to File menu > Open Recent to open your normal catalog again.

And this is which OS?

Tried both the prefs reset and a new catalogue. Still not working.

2015.2.1 Release
Camera Raw 9.2

OS X El Capitan
Version 10.11 (15A284)

One curious thing, I can't find the "com.adobe.Lightroom6.plist"

When you reset the preferences, did you use the method of holding down Shift+Opt when you started LR? Did you see the dialog asking if you wanted to reset?

Yes and yes. When LR opened, there seemed to be no difference. After closing and re-starting LR, the reset seems to have worked.

I wonder how this was solved. I have the same issue, and tried all of the above (deleting the preference several time, restarting etc.). Nothing has worked out. The export dialogue is still gone and I cannot export my work.

How did you reset the preferences? Simply deleting the .plist file, as Adobe support still instructs, doesn't work anymore. See here for the correct way: http://www.lightroomforums.net/showth...

I have used the "Resetting the Preferences File – Lightroom 6/CC only" instructions, though I find them somewhat difficult to understand ... making plenty of turns, comparing old to new, so that in the final end one gets lost. It would have been easier if someone would have just written do 1, 2, 3, ...

I have deleted the “Lightroom 6 Startup Preferences.agprefs” in the User library and also deleted the .plist in the Mac Library. I then restarted the Mac. After that I have started LR holding down the Shift and Opt keys (Mac) and have chosen "Reset Lightroom Preferences".

In theory, just doing the Shift + Opt at startup does the trick. The Startup Preferences just house things like the last-used catalog, so they're not usually affected by odd bugs.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Lightroom CC: Export feature no more working.

Hello,
I am a Mac OS X user. After the update to El Capitan and after the update of Lightroom CC to 2.1, export feature is not working and I am going crazy with it.
I am performing the same action ever: I select the image and right click on the pic, select Export... and nothing happens. More I face also the same problem if I go in the Library tab and I try to Setup Publishing Service.
Can somebody help me?

I've tried everything here and I can't export from Lightroom. I've reset the preferences, I've tried a new catalog. I'm stuck. Is anyone else still experiencing this issue? How was it solved? Please help. I need to export images for a client by tomorrow.

Do Help > System Info to double-check your version. If you're on CC 2015.2 / 6.2 or CC 2015.2.1 / 6.2.1, you can revert back to the stable CC 2015.1.1 / 6.1.1: http://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-...

Could someone who's hitting this save a copy of your bad prefs and send them to me? If we can get a copy of the prefs that could help us debug.

The path is: /Users/[your user name]/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Lightroom6.plist

You may need to use Method two in this document to access hidden user library files in OS X 10.7 or later: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/gl...

Thanks. The preference file didn't yield a repro case unfortunately. I had another theory that the dialog will in a different OS X space, thus not visible, but I haven't been able to reproduce that either.

Interesting idea. I tried it too, and the second space is empty.
If it helps, I'm on a Mac Pro (Late 2013) with duel monitors. I run LR in the single monitor mode.
Just tried again with the second monitor window active, still no result.

Well someone suggested, that it might be the preferences file, but I am not sure that this is actually the case. Anyway, I could send the .plist file, but I am not sure how get it to you.

Now reading his statement again, I might have misinterpreted it the first time. I thought he was saying, that he performed a reset of the preferences and nothing changed. And then independently when he restarted at a later point in time, it worked again. Anyway, I have now tried to reset the preference again (option-shift at start without the whole Mac restart sequence), and still no change for me.

Hi, I still have the un-accessable Export dialogue problem (and the less urgent non-functioning keyboard short-cuts.) I have done the preferences reset and re-started the computer, and the problem still persists.

For those of you having issues with Export, do any of the files you're trying to export have person (face) keywords attached to them?

I have tried it with both tagged and non-tagged photos, single photos, and with multiple photos selected. I have also tried it from a Collection, and from the Folder view. Lastly, I tried it in all the modules, and it's not working for any of the combinations.

Same problem here. Deleted the .plist prefs file, rebooted, and the issue persists. I'm running LR 2015.2.1 on Yosemite (10.10.5). I have faces tagged on some pictures but not others....doesn't matter which I choose, I can't get the export window to appear.

Using Lightroom 6.2.1. ( Stand alone) with Mac OS x 10.11. on an iMac (21.5 Zoll, Mitte 2011, 2,5 GHz Intel Core i5,16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3)
But since upgrading, no export is possible. No export window, nothing happened!
Only using " wie vorher exportieren" works.
But i Don't want export like before. No Tagged pictures!
So, i go back to LS 6.1 :-(

After resetting the preferences (rename com.adobe.Lightroom6.plist and reboot), and creating a new catalog, the export still does not work.

But here comes the strange part: "File", "Export with Preset" still shows all of my user presets!

Obviously the user presets are not in com.adobe.Lightroom6.plist, and they are not in the catalog. Consequently, a new catalog and new presets will not fix the problem.

-> So where are the user presets stowed away? Whatever file / location this is, this needs to be deleted and recreated.

A fresh installation of Lightroom on a pristine virtual machine does not show the problem, so it must have to do something with the user presets.

One more thing that is disturbing: After I renamed the preferences and rebooted, Lightroom still knows which Catalog to open. Also, when I check the newly created .plist file, it contains e.g. a list of all my Cataloges, even very old ones. So the file is not entirely fresh, it must have imported some settings from somewhere.
I have no version 5 files lying around, by the way.

How big is your lrcat catalog file? If the catalog file is the key, we could get a zipped up copy and an image to debug.

I managed to really remove all settings. There was an additional directory in "~/Application Support", as far as I remember. When this directory and the settings are removed, then LR starts up as if freshly installed, with a new, empty catalog. Into this catalog I imported one single file (a screenshot from the Mac).
So the catalog is small, and the file as well.
Right now I can't zip it up, because my Mac is busy.
Once I can: Where should I attach the file?

Maybe this helps a bit: The console shows two lines of error logs:

Then a stack trace follows:

In case this helps anyone I have found that un-installing Lightroom (via the Creative Cloud app) then re-installing has resolve the Export issue.

I had previously tried resetting and removing preferences, but this did not help.

Before re-installing I had the following issues:
* Export menu would not work.
* Various other shortcut keys would not work (e.g. "g" grid view, "f" full-screen etc).

The Export bug was the most problematic because the shortcut key bug could be worked around by using the menu items.

What do I do now?
