Lightroom: Canon S100 RAW files not recognized

I just bought a Canon S100 for when I don't want to carry my SLR. It shoots RAW but evidently Canon changed the file format even though the RAW images have the CR2 file extension. Lightroom 3.5 & ACR 6.5 don't recognize the file type. Is there another way to convert the CR2 files to another RAW format such as DNG until a Lightroom update is released that will reads these files directly? I'd like to avoid using the Canon supplied software that will only save the CR2 files as JPG or TIF.
Thx

ACR, LR, and the DNG Converter are all updated at the same time so unless the camera produces DNGs, itself, you'll have to wait until Adobe releases the next update/upgrade.

Just wait until it's supported to buy it (I advocate this to try to give the manufacturers the message that they should produce DNG files natively which would make them supported from day 1). Okay, too late for you, but that's really the only solution unless you want to shoot JPEG or use Canon's software.

thx guys, I was afraid you'd say that. Lee - I had a discount coupon that was expiring at Best Buy and since I sold my old G9 & scuba case, I already jumped in and bought the S100. I was hoping there was some alternative out there to convert the CR2 files. I wish Canon would have included this capability in their bundled software or added a DNG option in the camera, but after talking to their tech support twice, they really don't seem to care. I wonder if they'd say the same if the new 1D X was shipping and no one could use the RAW files in LR or P-Shop.

Dave,

You can use exiftool to change the model number to S95, or another more similar and supported model. Lightroom *may* then import it (when Lightroom says it doesn't recognize the file type, it really means its not DNG and not a supported model, it does not necessarily mean the CR2 file format is any different than any other supported CR2 file). Dunno how close the camera profiles will be, or whether you'll get all 12 megapixels, but you can customize/calibrate profiles using DNG Profile Editor and a 24 color chart if need be. If it works well enough, RcImporter can automate it.

Post a link to a raw and I'll try it for ya if you aren't comfortable doing it yourself.

I was unable to tweak params of S100 raw (via exiftool) to be acceptable to Lightroom.

If anybody knows the key values to unlock that raw for Lightroom, I'll create a profile for it.

Download here: http://www.robcole.com/_temp/S100RAW.CR2

Otherwise, it's Lr3.6 I guess...

You rarely have to wait long for new camera support:

Wow - that was quick! I'll have to download the release candidate and see how it goes.

Just installed LR RC 3.6. Seems to read the CR2 files from my S100 without problems.
