Photoshop Elements: Terrible image quality w/Canon Pixma MX410 printer

This is really about the Canon Pixma MX410 and how it plays with Adobe Photoshop Elements 9.

The Canon prints terrible high quality prints from within PSE---no matter the setting.

Prints from within the severely limited Canon print software are significantly better.

I've tried printing from other photo editing software and document software--basically the same result.

Anybody know a way around this mess, I need to be able to use PSE to print.

I've been printing color photos to inkjets for several years and have never seen garbage like this.

Canon goes so far as to blame Adobe. Canon's pro printers don't appear to have this problem.

Photoshop and Elements supply the same pixels to every printer. What happens to the pixels after the application hands them over is up to the printer driver and the OS. And in this case the OS works with other printer drivers just fine. So the remaining factor that could be different/buggy is: the Canon printer driver.
