Lightroom: Canon 5D Mark IV SD card doesn't import with ratings

I've noticed over the last month that images from the SD cards used in my 5D4 don't import with star ratings. Images imported from the CF card retain their stars, and images from my 6D have no problem. I've lost hours re-culling thousands of images I'd already culled in-camera, because I imported from the more convenient SD card.

In the future I'll be sure to import only from the CF, and I can't say if this is an Adobe or Canon issue, but I thought I'd let you know.

Is anyone else having this problem?

That's strange. Are you importing via a USB cable attached to the camera, or via a card reader attached to your computer?  Another person reported different problems when using a USB cable: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2219401

Also, copy a sample pic from each card directly to your computer without importing into LR (e.g. using Finder or File Explorer). Upload them to Dropbox (or similar) and post the sharing links here.  We can take a look to see if there's any difference in the files themselves.

Hi John,

I'm importing via card reader (honestly, I forgot I could move them directly from the camera). Here's a link to the folder, where they're all marked appropriately:

For thoroughness, I copied the files from the SD card both by external reader and internal, in-computer reader.

Thanks so much,
Adam

Here is the Rating metadata field stored in the files:

It looks like you made a mistake with "CF External Reader Starred" -- it has a 0 rating.

My LR CC 2015.7 / OS X 10.11.5 imports those ratings correctly:

Given your camera, you must be running CC 2015.7 / 6.7.  Which version of Mac or Windows?

If you have an example of a photo whose rating imported incorrectly into your LR, please upload the photo along with any .xmp sidecar file to Dropbox.  That will give more clues as to whether your LR is doing something funny with the rating field.

Oops, that should read: f you have an example of a photo whose rating imported incorrectly into your LR, select the photo and do Metadata > Save Metadata To File. Then upload the photo along with the .xmp sidecar file to Dropbox.  This will let us see what's in the .cr2 from the camera along with what LR thinks it read in the .xmp.

Got it. I'll do it in the morning, and thanks so much for helping me out on this, John.

I'm running macOS Sierra, public release 10.12.

Haven't forgotten about this, just been traveling, and with horribly slow internet access. I may not be able to do the uploads for the next few days, but this is bugging me, so it'll happen eventually!

No worries.  Besides solving your immediate issue, it's good to verify whether or not there's a bug or incompatibility in LR.

Is there an update on this? Having the same issue and can't find anything online but this thread... Thanks!
