While working on on details that span the entire width or height of an image but you need to zoom considerably, you cannot fit the entire area you will want to select in one zoomed frame. So you need to pan. Yet this does not seem to work in Lightroom.
How can you pan while using the selective tool in Lightroom 5 ? You need to deselect the tool to be able to pan, and then you cannot complete your selection. This seems like such a basic and necessary feature that I can hardly imagine it's not possible. Yet the interface is not there in front of you

Hold the space bar down to pan. Release it to return to your tool

I meant, using the mouse, not the navigator. And also a nice way to zoom/pan quickly, not using these fractions...The slider disappears when you use the selective tool...

Sarah, it still works the same way with the mouse. Hold down the Spacebar, and click and drag on the main image to pan around.

Thank you so much Rickk and Victoria.
Yes it works.
I am new to Lightroom and still don't know the shortcuts...
