Photoshop Elements: Text created as mask instead of pixels

It has been a frustrating few hours trying to add text to my downloaded photos in MS Windows 2007 (Small Business) using Photoshop Elements 7 (legitimately bought in Singapore).
I have followed the instructions given online by Lynda tutorials etc but the typed text became 'blurry invisible' after clicking on the green commitment tick. I was trying to add text to the photos, saved as .jpg and be emailed to my friends. Must be something seriously wrong.
Any urgent help greatly appreciated! Thanks.

This is Kwan solving his OWN problem!
I have just realised that I have been using a 'mask' text tool instead of a normal one. Hence problem solved and no text was recorded. It was not obvious since the shading on the T symbol was not distinctive enough - ADOBE please note !!!
