Photoshop CC: Cannot see the image when I click on "Open image" once I have selected an image to work on. What am I doing wrong?

Newbie to Photoshop, using Adobe CC on a PC laptop with Windows. I click on File... then open... then select source for the image. Click on the image then open. It brings up a preview window, I then select open image... I then get a black screen, it does show a background layer on the right side and it appears that there is a window open at the top left of the black screen but nothing else shows up. What am I doing wrong? I did just update Photoshop through CC to see if that helped and it made no difference. HELP Please!!

It's probably an old/bad graphics driver. Go directly to your card manufacturer's website and update the driver. If that doesn't work. Disable "Use Graphics Processor" in the preferences.

Thank you! I'm new at this and hadn't thought of the actual graphics card being the issue. I updated and restarted the computer now all is good. Again thank you!!
