Lightroom 5.7: cannot save file when editing .tif 2nd time in PS CC as long as LR is open

Hello folks,

I found something strange:

- I edit a photo from out of Lightroom in PS CC by cmd+E
- I do my edits and save without problem -> edited version is shown in LR
- I do a cmd+E in LR on the .tif and choose to edit the original
- I do my edits in PS and try to save -> PS refuses to save the file because there was no write-access granted
- I close LR and try again to save in PS -> gets saved without problem

Seems that LR puts some kind of lock on the file which prevents PS from saving it.

Cheers Johannes

Yes, it sounds like something is holding the file open for some reason, thus preventing the save. It could be the OS, if you have the Finder open to that directory (and thus showing thumbnails) when you save the file. If you don't have that directory open in the Finder, then it is most likely LightRoom -- but we'll have to confirm that by checking the list of files that LightRoom has open (you can check this yourself using the Activity Monitor, double click on LightRoom, then click the "open files and ports" tab - most recently opened files will be near the bottom).

Which version of LightRoom are you using?
Which specific version of Photoshop?
Which OS version are you using?

Yes, you are right. LR has the file open, attached the last few lines from the open files and ports section from Lightroom:

/Users/johio/Library/Saved Application State/com.adobe.Lightroom5.savedState/windows.plist
/Users/johio/Library/Saved Application State/com.adobe.Lightroom5.savedState/window_1.data
count=0, state=0x2
/Volumes/Fotos/2015/2015-01-11_134701_JRA_0017-Bearbeitet.tif

My system stats are:
iMac 27" late 2013, OSX 10.10.1, latest LR (5.7.1) and PS CC (2014.2.2) from Creative Cloud.
Files are stored on a Synology NAS which is connected by SMB.

For sure the issue is LR-related, because closing Lightroom immediately allows me to save the file in PS.

OK, we'll have to follow up with the Lightroom engineers to see why this is happening, and how they can fix it.

Hi,

I have to add something I just found out:

Connecting the NAS by SMB shows the problem described above
Connecting the NAS by AFP works as expected

OK, that could be an important detail in reproducing the issue.
(now I wonder why LR or the OS changes behavior based on server protocol?)
