Can one check the PPI of a LAYER?

I'm designing my first CD cover which will have to be in 300 PPI.  Is it possible to check the PPI of just an individual layer?  Actually, the question behind this query is:  Regarding the photographic elements in this design, I am changing the original photo source to 300 ppi, and then clipping out what I want and then dragging it to the size I want with the square lasso.  In shrinking the clips this way am I maintaining the propper 300 ppi or is that being destroyed when I shrink it by simply dragging it smaller?

First of all, I am a bit puzzled that you say that you do this in Premiere Elements. I assume you mean Photoshop Elements. There is no need to check the resolution of an individual layer, because layers cannot have a different resolution than the document itself.

Hi Johan.  I don't really know what Premiere Elements is.  I just checked the box because it was the only app that came close to what I'm using which is Elements and I previously was asked by a monitor what app a previous question pertained to as though I had failed to indicate, so this time I just checked the only box that came close.  As for the resolution of layers, thanks for the answer!

Hi John.  I appreciate your answer.  I have one more in context to this.  I'm preparing artwork for an audio CD package and it has to be submitted in 300 ppi.  I started with a background that was 300ppi.  I then started bringing in clips from other photos to design the artwork.  With every clip that I brought in, I first manually changed the size to 300 ppi.  Then, becuase the clips needed to be sized for the artwork, I merely dragged them with the square lasso to the size I wanted and dragged them to the project as a new layer and then dragged them again to the size I needed.  So, I'm assuming that my project and all the layers are all 300 ppi?
