Camera Raw/Lightroom: Merge to Panorama - Geometric Distortion

The Merge to Panorama engine is fantastic in terms of blending colors and seamless stitching. Regarding perspective distortion however, on countless occasions, the engine will turn back a result like this:

There are 2 problems that arise here. Firstly, if merged, it is very difficult to transform into the correct shape. Secondly, even if one successfully is able to manipulate it toward the correct shape, the canvas and DNG file size reflect the large white area which is often massive. The result is a sluggish computer when trying to make adjustments to the pano.dng

The Red circle is close to where the Merge to Panorama engine has selected the Vanishing Point to be. The Yellow circle is very close to where the wanted vanishing point is

Here's two suggestions to fix these problems. Firstly, within the Panorama Merge Preview, give the user the ability to select a Vanishing Point (like seen in APG below)

Also within the Merge to Panorama Preview, give the user a tool to draw the desired horizon line (like the Straighten Tool).
Continue to clamp the crop to the image to keep the DNG canvas size to the minimum while still retaining all of the image information.
When the desired preview has been achieved, the Merged resulting pano.dng will save heaps of time and hardware processing.

Lastly, here's another request for a Pannini-like projection option to be available alongside Spherical, Cylindrical and Perspective. Perspective is often unable to be merged but Pannini bridges Perspective and Cylindrical with a user selectable threshold.

Is anyone else finding this an issue when creating panorama.dngs?

Yes, would love to have these additions. I'm running into the same issues especially with quickly shot handheld panos.

I'd also like to request that Lightroom be able to merge images when the lens focal length shifts slightly (1mm or so). Other programs like PTGui have no problem compensating for inadvertent lens shifts.
