Bug: DNG Converter 8.6 always uses Factory Defaults when converting raws to DNGs.

There are multiple reports of a change in behavior with the DNG Converter 8.6 compared to DNGC 8.5 and before.

The standalone DNG Converter 8.6 apparently always converts a raw to a DNG using the Adobe "Factory" Default settings.

This has manifested itself in two different ways:

The DNG Converter 8.6 ignores any customizations a user has made to their Camera Raw Default settings--like having a different initial camera profile or exposure boost or ISO-specific noise-reduction slider values, etc. If the user is converting to DNG as their first step in processing, after opening in Bridge or Lightroom, the user has to do a Reset to get things back to their customized CR defaults. Bridge will show a non-default-settings badge when the DNGs are first viewed as thumbnails, as well, so Bridge can tell there is a difference between what the DNGs contain for settings and the customized camera raw defaults the user has.

The DNG Converter 8.6 also ignores any XMP information that is stored in a sidecar file. This means that if someone is wanting to convert the raws to lossy DNGs as the last step of processing, they will lose all their settings and the DNG will contain only the Adobe "factory" default settings.

So far the reports have been for the standalone DNG Converter not the DNG conversion built into Lightroom.

Thanks, Steve. We are investigating.

Converting to DNG via the Camera Raw Plugin also works as expected.

Bug is fixed internally and will be included in the next public release of the DNG Converter.
