Camera Raw and DNG: Adobe DNG Converter opens folder sometimes and file sometimes

This is a bug report for DNG Converter 6.4.0.139 for Macintosh.

I usually want to convert raw files to DNGs on a one-by-one basis.

There seem to be two ways to do this

1) Move the raw file + side car to a temporary folder, convert the folder, and then drag the raw + side car back to where they were. This is, obviously, a PITA.

2) Right click on the raw file in the Finder, then select "Open With" then "Other...", navigate to the Adobe Raw Converter App and select that app. Adobe Raw Converter will open with a dialog box that shows the name of the file, you choose an output directory, and that one file is converted to a dng.

The bug is that process (2) only works Adobe Raw Converter is closed (not running) when you right click on the file in the Finder. If it is already open (e.g., you left it open after the last conversion), then it converts all the files in that folder.

The bug report is that Adobe Raw Converter should behave the same whether it is just launched, or is already open.

While I am at it, I would like to make a feature request that Adobe Raw Converter accept one or more individual files dragged onto it, and convert just those files, and not a whole folder.

Thanks

A

PS--If you need a movie of the process to demonstrate the bug, let me know, and I'll supply one.

Does the DNG Converter have the same behavior with version 6.5?

Huh. I just sorta thought that DNG converter would keep itself up to date. I'll download and let you know.

Thx

Yeah. The DNG converter isn't tied into the CS5 update mechanism.

Yes version 6.5.0.218 has the same issue.

Not to be snide (well, perhaps I am), I note that nearly all the other apps on my computer manage to keep themselves up to date, even though they aren't tied into the CS5 update mechanism. You might consider asking a summer intern to add auto-update to DNG converter. I know it is a free utility, and I am grateful for that, but it can't be that hard to add auto-updating.
