Photoshop CC 2015: Vector shapes with gradients do weird things when you hit 'X'

When a vector shape has a gradient fill applied to it, selecting that layer and hitting the X key does weird things. It changes the gradient to some other gradient that you had previously applied (even if it was in another file on a different day), and adds a bunch of extraneous steps to the History palette. Here is a video:

I'm running Photoshop CC 2015.1.1 on Mac OS 10.10.5.
