PHOTOSHOP - when in color picker dialog, I can't grab color from Color palette

When I'm in the color picker, I can move my cursor to just about any appropriate place on my monitors and 'grab' the color from there. I can grab a color from: an open PSD, the background/foreground color on the Tools palette, any swatch from the Swatches palette.

That's as it should be, as it's a great feature - sometimes when you're deciding on a color, you notice one you want already somewhere on the screen and can quickly grab it. But one place where this doesn't work is from the color picker area of the Color palette, even though this would be a very useful area to do so.

In fact, it even works on the foreground/background color on the color palette itself. Just not on the main color areas of the color palette.

I often rub up against this inconsistency in my workflow, and it's (mildly) annoying. I'm sure I'm not the only one

What mode do you have the color palette in / displaying?
And which version of Photoshop are you using?

It seems the problem only occurs in Hue Cube and Brightness Cube modes (I use Hue Cube).

I have version 2015.1.2 20161013.r.355 x64, windows 7-64

Ah, ok, that narrows down the problem quite a bit.
We'll have to see what's going on in that code that prevents it from being read by the eyedropper while in a dialog.

This problem still exists in CC 2015.5.1

It also won't grab colors from custom colors in the Library palette

It looks like we've had some progress on this. In the latest version (CC 2018 19.0) you can now grab a color from the large color area in the Color Palette. That's a welcome improvement.

However, you still can't grab a color from your saved colors in the Library palette, nor from any colors in the Adobe Color Themes palette, which both seem like weird omissions.
