Bug: Not in any album doesn't work in Lightroom CC

I deleted a folder containing photos in Lightroom CC for Windows, and clicked on the confirmation dialog. Unfortunately, it appears that I had selected the folder just above the one that I had actually wanted to delete. Of course, there is no undo function, is there? No problem, so I thought I'd use the new search filter "album: not in any album" to display the orphaned photos. Nope. Nothing appears in the search results. When I find a few of the files by typing in their filenames, I can find them. But they're not associated with any album. Yet they don't appear when I filter by "not in any album". So now I have to find a hundred of them, manually, and assign them to a new folder. Or wait for this bug to be fixed.

Hi Krakus

Can you please answer the following to help us identify the problem:
  • What version of lightroom cc are you using?
  • What is the application language?
  • Do you see the suggestion "Not in any album" at the bottom of the popup when you type in "album:" in the search bar? Are you selecting this option to filter the results?

Version 2.2.1. Language is English. Yes, I see the "not in any album" option pop-up when typing. No, I'm not filtering.

When I manually removed another photo from a different album afterward, it did show this single photo. But not the ones in the deleted album. I had to manually look for all of them (and they had no album associated), and drag them to a newly created album, to get them all back. For some reason they just wouldn't appear in "not in any album".

Hi Krakus,

Thanks for the sharing the details. Can you please some more follow-up questions?
  • Do you mean it works on some photos, but doesn't work on another set of photos?
  • Have these photos been "Shared"?
  • Is there an "Albums" section at the bottom of the Info Panel when you select any of the photos for which it doesn't work? If yes, does it show up any names?

Yes. So, all the photos that were in the deleted album would fail to show up on a "not in any album" search. When I deleted the album association of a different photo elsewhere to see if the feature worked at all, this single test photo did show up as expected. In fact, I'm trying to reproduce it now by deleting a folder of test photos, and at the moment they do show up correctly in the "not in any album" search. But for some reason this one earlier folder deletion caused the photos inside to not appear, so I reported it.

The problem photos were not shared. And no, there was no album section for these photos. They had no album association at all. For some reason they weren't picked up in the "not in any album" search.

Ah, I got it. I reproduced it.

It's very simple. Select album X. Then right-click on a different album Y (but don't select it). Delete the album Y on the context menu. The photos inside will then fail to appear in a "not in any album" search.

If you do select album Y and delete album Y, then it works.
