I just noticed that Lightroom does not know how to sort files in filename sequence correctly.

Here is a sample sequence.

Correct Sort based on Filename
MoB_00804_e008453.cr2
MoB_00804_e008453_Ps.psd
MoB_00804_e008454.cr2
MoB_00804_e008455.cr2
MoB_00804_e008456.cr2
MoB_00804_e008457.cr2
MoB_00804_e008458.cr2
MoB_00804_e008458_Ps.psd
MoB_00804_e008459.cr2

Lightroom Sort based on Filename
MoB_00804_e008453.cr2
MoB_00804_e008458_Ps.psd  ..... error
MoB_00804_e008458.cr2         ....  error
MoB_00804_e008453_Ps.psd
MoB_00804_e008454.cr2
MoB_00804_e008455.cr2
MoB_00804_e008456.cr2
MoB_00804_e008457.cr2
MoB_00804_e008459.cr2

The incorrect sequence items have longer filenames. but that should not matter.

Personally, I cannot reproduce the error.
Did you:
* execute a sort command just prior to noting the error (in which case it truly is an error)?
  or
* "re"-develop some of the items just prior to noting the error? In this case you might try executing a sort command. For instance, after a photo merge Lr suddenly changes the sort order to "custom" (don't ask me why) and puts those files at the end.

Problem solved .... at least the symptom.

The first 3 files had become stacked.

I do not understand how they got stacked.  I did two round trips to Ps.  (ie Edit in PS).   Personally I do not use stacked images .... will check if there is an auto stack setting somewhere.  I can understand stacking of the raw and related Psd by Lr/Ps but cannot understand how a non related 3rd  image got stacked into the pair of raw and psd files.

I cannot be sure it was not  finger trouble ... will watch for a repeat. The folder contains only a few images, which I had just taken and edited two of the images in Lr and then PS... so my memory of the sequence is very recent.

Thanks for your prompt response.

The problem was solved by xxxxx on www.lightroomforums ... where I was initially advised it was a bug to do with the length of the filenames.

http://www.lightroomforums.net/threads/grid-view-sort-in-filename-seq-is-not-working.28495/#post-119...

You will also find a screen dump of my grid view showing the sort settings at the above url ... I notice I cannot send you a screen shoot.

Is there any know issues with stacking.

Regards.

Ah! Johan is a guru indeed. I think I was on the right track but missed a turn ;)
Interesting read, though.
Good luck!

I'm running Lr CC 2015.6 on Win10 and can't reproduce this either.

What version of Lr and what OS are you running?

Are you seeing the issue in Folders, Collections, or both?

Are all the files stored in one folder or are they in subfolders that you're viewing with the "Show Folders in Subfolders" option turned on?

See above.  Solved.  Definitely a stacked situation ... but do not know how they got stacked. Cannot eliminate finger trouble.

To answer your question.  All in a single folder with no sub folders (but good thought).
