when a clipping mask Layer is created on top of a group with 2 or more Layers, the Clipping mask Layer will be ignored by the move tool in right click canvas selection and auto select modes if you are clicking in an area that is completely empty in the first layer in the group below it.

Steps:

1 - create a layer with any visible content in it
2 - create a second layer with any visible content in it over the first one,  leaving empty areas so the first one is also visible
3 - group the first and second layers
4 - create a third layer with any visible content in it over the group, leaving empty areas so all layers are visible in different spots
5 - create a Clipping Mask on the third layer over the group
6 - choose the Move Tool
7- With Auto Select enabled, click over an area that shows information only from the third and first Layers in the document. Third Layer will be ignored by Photoshop as if it didn't exist.
8 - With or without Auto Select enabled, right click over an area that shows information only from  the third and first Layers in the document, to see the quick Layer selection list. Third Layer will be ignored by Photoshop as if it didn't exist.
9 - The Third Layer will only be selectable if the cursor is placed over an area where the first Layer in the group, no matter how many more Layers are inside the group.

I hope this is helpful for the Development team in order to find a solution , if you are not already aware of this problem.

Thank you very much in advance.

Yes, it seems like clipping to groups has had a number of issues over the years. I'll make sure this bug gets entered into the system if it isn't already.
