Bug groups not working with filters

When I group photos in LR CC they show up in groups as long as the filters are off. Once I switch on a filter the groups disappear and the photos just show up in the grid if as not in a group.
I hope that is really a bug and not by design because honestly I could not come up with any scenario where this would make sense.

I am guessing you are talking about Stacks (Groups).

This looks like as-designed behavior to me. If I have 20 pictures of a dog in a single stack and I filter for "Dog" I would want Lightroom CC to return all pictures of a dog regardless of whether they are in a stack or not and show them as individual photos in the grid.

Perhaps if you could give more detail as to what you want to see and why we could make some recommendations?

I'm sure it's by design, and I think it makes sense too. Take the example of Rikks dogs photos. They could be in a stack because they are all photos of the same dog. In that case one could argue that filtering for 'Dog' should simply show the stack. But what if four photos in that stack show another animal as well, like a cat? What should happen when you filter on 'cat'? Should Lightroom show a stack with only four images now? Should Lightroom show the whole stack even though 16 photos don't have a cat in them? It makes sense that stacking is ignored when you filter.

I disagree. For example, when creating an HDR photo or Panorama, Lightroom stacks the pictures together. If I apply a filter, let's say my flagged photos, the stack isn't applied anymore. This is counter-intuitive. Adobe uses stacks to hide the original photos but they reappear when we apply a filter...
