Photoshop: Brush lag in Photoshop CC while streaming music?

I'm experiencing brush lag in Photoshop CC (14.2.1) while streaming music in Safari on a late 2013 iMac with 24gb RAM. I thought it was the Wacom driver, so I uninstalled it and then installed the latest version. Nope. I thought it might be Flash Player, so I uninstalled that. I thought it might be Wacom, so I switched to a Huion tablet and changed the drivers. None of that helped. When I stream music, terrible brush lag with even the most basic brushes. When I close the browser window, problem clears up. This computer is new and fast — this makes no sense. OSX is up to date too (Mavericks). Any way to fix this with Photoshop preferences or something?

Sounds like you answered your own question. The best way to fix it is to turn off whatever process is eating up resources.

Well, really the question is — can that really be true? I mean, the fact that streaming music in Safari slows down the brush in Photoshop seems sort of crazy. I checked Activity Monitor and it shows very low CPU usage from the music streaming. This is a 3.5Ghz i7 iMac with 24gb of RAM — I've given Photoshop 16gb of RAM. But thats really the issue? Multitasking in 10.9.3 is that poor? I mean, I can stream music on my phone and draw on that without lag. I was hoping there might be some other issue I might have overlooked or that this was a known bug. Bummer. But thanks for the reply.

It's Songza.com. I don't think it's Flash, because I uninstalled Flash trying to track down the problem. It didn't occur to me that different streaming sites would function so differently that the problem could be specific to 1 site, but I tried Rdio and no brush lag. I emailed Songza to let them know.

Hmm, they serve up some Flash ads. But their "pause/play" spinner is redrawing a LOT of the window constantly. If the browser window is visible, that could cause slowdowns for any other app trying to draw. Their mouse over states redraw a lot as well. I haven't been able to reproduce the lag so far - but it could be device and OS (and Safari) version specific.

I think you're on the right track with the screen redraws. I just tried hiding Songza and the problem went away. It made me think that maybe the issue is the external monitor I have hooked up to my iMac -- that the redraws plus the extra screen were putting a strain on the GPU. But I just tried unplugging the external monitor and using the brush while Songza and Photoshop were both onscreen. The brush still lagged. Hiding Songza still fixed it.

OK, let them know about the additional information - they may be able to optimize their animation/ UI to reduce the drawing overhead.
