Photoshop CC: Brush Lag with smoothing enabled

I have brush lag that others are suffering from.

My brush drags behind my brush and never catches up, regardless how slow I go. It actually only catches up when I select 'Catch-up on stroke end' within 'smoothing'.
However, I don't want it to drag in the 1st place.
I've checked for solutions on other post, but none work for me.
It's not my PC as I have a high end PC that is extremely fast.

Hi Jon,

What version of Photoshop are you running and on what OS? For the Photoshop version go to Help > System Info. It would be good to know because this issue should have been resolved in 19.0.1.

Thank you,
Hannah

Hi Hannah.
Eartho’s hint worked well.
There is a problem with smoothing. Even when ‘catch-up’ is enabled, it doesn’t fully catch up.
Disabling smothing gets rid of the lag.

dominika.
Open your brush tool.
On the top of your panel you will see the options:
Mode: Opacity: Flow: Smoothing:
On the 'Smoothing:' option, set this to 0%

I know this ain't the best but it does make it usable.

Hi Dominica,

What OS are you on? Can you go to Help > System Info and paste the contents of that window please?

Thanks,
Hannah

Hi Jon,

Thanks for helping Dominika, Jon. I'm glad to hear that this workaround is helping you (though I'd prefer that we get it fixed).

Regards,
Hannah

Hi Jon, I don't have a smoothing option at the top. I just have opacity and flow. I'm on the photography Photoshop setting. If I click on brush options, all I can do is deselect smoothing but that doesn't do anything.

And you're welcome! Let me know how it goes! Like I said, there is a new version of Photoshop coming pretty soon too, so you may wish to update to 19.1 when that is out (current version is 19.0.1)

Thanks Hannah, I appreciate youvtaking the time. I'll probably update both times as I have a lot of work to do and if unchecking smoothing will work then I'll try anything at this point!

Hannah :I tried to update but since it says I have the current version it won't allow an update. Could you please help me update to the new version and delete the old version?

Hi Dominika,

Jon was right - if for whatever reason your Creative Cloud isn't showing any updates, uninstalling is one of the recommended troubleshooting steps. Also, do you have custom actions or presets? If you have any custom actions I would recommend saving those off separately from your preferences by selecting "Save Actions" from the Actions panel flyout (more info about actions and presets is available here: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preset-migration.html )

Here's a link to troubleshoot your Creative Cloud not showing that an update is available when you know you aren't up-to-date:

Hannah
