Photoshop CC 2017: Brush doesn't render the same as prior versions

Hey,
I am a creator of professional Ps brushes – and I've probably found a bug in the brush engine of the recent version of Ps CC 2017.

Please note: the Brush itself is displayed correctly in the brush preview.
It does not render correctly on the canvas though.

It only occurs when the texture mode is set to subtract. All the other blend modes work as suspected.

Am I missing something?
Can somebody please confirm this?
I would be super glad If somebody could back me up here.

You can download and try it for yourself – I am on a mac / macOS Sierra / Ps CC2017.

Here are the Settings:

Rendered by CC 2017:

THIS is the same Brush rendered by CC 2015:

Thanks, Eilert

I am not seeing a difference with the Tool Preset supplied between different versions of PS. Can you verify that the settings are the same in both versions you are using? I would look at the Dual Brush Mode. It is currently set for Hard Mix in the preset supplied, but I get results similar to your desired stroke if I change it to Multiply or Darken

Hey Mike,

thanks for the reply, but I really think I found something here.

I've created a Brush 1000 px, 100x100 px squares, from 10% black to 100% – to see what's going on with the values.
Additionally added a texture (50% black), checked inverted, selected transfer mode subtract (not the brush transfer mode - the texture transfer mode). For the exact values see the attached screenshot or the .tpl file.
here:

NOTE: to re-create ramp consistently I've added a fade of 100 to the depth control of the texture. (2nd tool-preset)

This is what the output in CC2015.5 is:

And here is the exact same brush used in CC2017:

However: the Brush stroke representation (in CC2017) shows the stroke correctly (please notice the angle of the falloff):

This is the UI brushstroke representation in CC 2015.5 (looks a bit geyish but notice: it is the same form):

The thing is: I can achieve this effect in another manner ... but just as a workaround. I have created quite some brushes which make use of this technique. And I really do think something is broken here.

Final Note:
The error only occurs in this specific setup.

Can you please confirm that the tool preset called "FADED_RAMP" looks exactly the same in CC2015 and CC2017?

Thanks for your help, Eilert

Are you loading Tool Presets into PS2017 to get the previous versions in? If so, try switching to a different tool ie Move tool when loading the preset.

De- and reinstalling didn't do the trick - neither your tip. I've tried starting PS clean without any libraries then loading presets manually as described. What system are you on?

I have tried Windows 10,  Mac 10.11.6 and 10.12.1. All three gave the expected result.

I've also built the preset from scratch in CC2017 – same as before.

Any advice? Completely new system – get rid of prefs?

After 2 un-and-re-installs it is working again. I'll add my preferences piece by piece so I might be able to track the problem. Thanks for your help.

I'm seeing a similar problem on my system, though it seems to affect most or all texture modes, not just subtract.  It actually started in CC2015.5 and is still happening in CC2017.  Did you ever figure out exactly what's causing the issue?  Thanks.

Hey Piotr,
I've removed the complete presets folder – then it worked again. I am busy right now and I'll investigate as soon as possible. I'll be adding my scripts/addons/filters/.. one by one to see what created the disturbance. For now I am sticking with CC2015.5.
