Last night the crop tool in Photoshop CS5 stopped working. I run a MacBook Pro with OS X Mountain Lion. When I try to install updates I am told that the Application Manager is already running. I've stopped all Adobe applications & services and still no luck. I have a business that depends on this - please I need help now.

Odds are that the crop tool just has settings on the options bar that you've forgotten about. Have you checked the settings? Have you tried resetting the tool? Worst case, have you tried resetting Photoshop's preferences?

And unfortunately, I don't know why the application manager is giving you errors.
But the good news is that CS5 hasn't had any updates in a long time.

Thanks Chris - you were right. The only thing I don't understand is how that could have happened since I never type in manual sizes when using the crop tool. I'm not aware of any stray animals having wandered across my keyboard but ... stranger things have been known. :-)

As for the broken update - we will see what Adobe come back with since the graciously agreed to support that one without charging me $40.

It could have been from selecting a tool preset, running an action, or just unintentional typing into an active number field that you didn't realize was active...

It happens to all of us.
