Photoshop: Cannot use the Spacebar shortcuts

I am a long time user of Photoshop, over 15 years, and I am truly annoyed that the spacebar can no longer be used within shortcuts. I would love to have back that feature. I love being able to use the spacebar for the hand tool, the spacebar &alt for zoom out and spacebar & command for zoom in. Please consider brining in the spacebar feature and then arrow key is quit annoying in latest version as well. I love the spacebar feature for shortcuts

Those shortcuts still work in the current release of Photoshop.

You may have something else on your computer using those shortcuts, and preventing Photoshop from seeing them.

What version of Photoshop are you using?
What OS version are you using?

I am using Photoshop CC (2014) latest version
Yosemite
Version 10. 10. 3

I for the life of me have no idea why i talked to someone from tech support and they said (this was online) that they removed the spacebar in the latest version?

Please if they still have it where would i begin to figure out where it broke or is broken?

Yeah, the spacebar shortcuts haven't been removed or changed at all.

But we have seen plugins cause problems with keyboard shortcuts, OS shortcuts cause problems (especially if you turned on the keyboard language switching via spacebar), and other applications cause problems.
There are a couple other topics in this forum about the spacebar not working, with multiple causes found.

Holding down shift is a temporary diagnostic thing - since you're missing some of the common OS extensions and third party additions. But that does mean that the problem is with one of them.

If you have Default Folder X, then you may want to disable or update it.

For what it's worth, while Safe Boot mode is a common troubleshooting step, it is likely to cause PS to behave in unexpected ways.

Since the latest update (September 2018) both Photoshop and Illustrator now INSISTS you use only A-Z keys for your tool shortcuts. I'm sure. myself and millions of other users have used spacebar to move around at speed with their left/right thumb. It's now impossible to choose spacebar for ANYTHING.

Please fix this urgently. It has huge impact on our ergonomics and workflow. I see no advantage of blocking the biggest button on the keyboard from being used.

Are you referring to using the space bar to switch to the pan tool to move around the view? That works just fine here - and haven't see other reports that haven't been system specific. Have you tried a different keyboard? Resetting your prefs? Starting in safemode?

I'm using version 19.1.5 of Photoshop under macOS 10.12.6 High Sierra right now and all the keyboard shortcuts under the "Photoshop Defaults" set (Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts... > Set > Photoshop Defaults) work as expected, including pressing and holding the spacebar for the Hand tool to pan the image and shortcuts that use numbers (like command 0 for Fit on Screen) and using numbers to set value for tools (like pressing "5" while using the Brush Tool to set the Opacity to 50%).

Could someone who's read that something changed about limits to the keyboard shortcuts copy and paste a link?

The only significant change that I'm aware of in the Adobe graphic design applications for keyboard shortcuts is to InDesign where users can switch to Photoshop keyboard shortcuts or Illustrator keyboard shortcuts; however, this can be easily changed back and forth from the InDesign Defaults and PS or AI in the Keyboard Shortcuts preferences in InDesign.
