Bridge: Creation date of photo is not seen by filter function

OK, so here is something really weird, I really dont understand it...

We all know that the creation date of a photo that is saved in the files metadata is seen by Bridge's filter function, so that we can conveniently filter our photos by creation date...

This is not so for all my pictures, but only for the pictures in certain folders, while for pictures in certain other folders, although having the creation date in their metadata, the filter function seems not to "see" this information.

Now here is the strange part: As soon as I copy one of the pictures in the folders where the creation date is seen into a folder where the creation date is not seen, the creation date for all the other pictures is now seen as well. If I delete the one picture from the folder, again the creation date for none of the pictures is seen!

Is this a known problem? Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to overcome this problem, maybe by having Bridge re-read all metadata or something like that?

Absolutely clueless,
Robert

Hi Robert,

That is strange. Does renaming the folder or purging the cache for the folder in which they are not showing make any difference?

Tools > Cache > Purge cache for ...

Hi, thanks for the reply!

When I rename the folder, for a very brief moment the creation date is displayed under Filters (maybe half a second or even less), then creation date disappears...

The same happens when I purge the cache.

Hmm, thanks for testing that, sorry to hear it didn't work. A couple more questions about the scenario.

- Are you on a Windows or Mac computer?
- What version of Bridge?
- Are the images in the folder that does work on a different drive than the ones that do? (external drive, network, anything like that)
- What kind of images are you working with? jpg, camera raw, etc.
- Have the folders which are not working ever worked in the past?
- Any difference that you can think of for the folders that do versus those that don't work?

Make sure there are at least two images in the folder in which the date created is not appearing.

Thanks,

-Dave

I am on a Windows 7 computer, using Bridge 4.0.5.11.

The images in the different working/non-working folders are on the same harddisk, and some of them are even subfolders of the same folder.

I'm working with jpg and raw images (Sony ARW or DNG), no difference there between working/non-working...

The folders that are not working have never been working. However, I think I remember that when I first opened the folder, creation date was first shown, but then quickly disappeared from the Filter list (same as when I rename the folder or purge the cache, cf. above).

I dont think that there are any differences for the working/non-working folders, in particular since the problem persists even when I am moving the respetive pictures into new (and differently named) folders on another harddisk. Therefore, I actually have the impression that the problem is not connected to the folders (although it seems to be folder-specific), but somehow to the pictures themselves. However, the pictures are in the same format, taken with the same camera, etc, no difference that I could think of there.

Would it be helpful to take a closer look at the EXIF data of working/non-working pictures? (I did, and didn't find any difference that could explain the problem as far as I can see.)

Anyway, thanks for you help, I really appreciate it!

Robert

Just in case this still need an answer I have found the following;

If the folder only contains images created on one date the creation date is not shown in the filter panel, seems to be the same for all filter categories.
