Bridge: Create key words for directories

Feature request.....

Any directory catalogued in Bridge should allow multiple key words to be assigned to that directory (as opposed to the files in the directory). Key word search operations should be restricted to the directory list. Searching should allow some logical operations such as "AND" and "OR". The list of directories and key word assignments should be completely available even if the directories are off-line.

Motivation.....

The primary reason for this feature is to allow the management of "projects" as opposed to "single images".

If you have a large collection of images (I have 700,000 images), subsets of the collection are usually placed in directories. Each directory may contain images, video, text, and other information. Usually, the directories are effectively a shooting project such as "Montana", "Wedding", "Downtown", "Betty Boop", "Spruce Meadows", "Yellowstone", etc. If you have a large number of such shooting projects over the years, you may have many thousands of directories and these may be spread over many hard drives (I have 8 active networked hard drives).

The directory list should be visible and key-word manageable even if the target directories are not "on line". The list should indicate if the target directory is or is not currently attached (as in Lightroom).

Managing and locating needed images can be rather difficult. For example, I shoot for a client "Spruce Meadows". Over the years, I have well over a hundred directories with images from various competitions. Trying to find all of the "Spruce Meadows" images is tedious. If a directory list with multiple key word searching were available, I could quickly locate all appropriate image sets.

In this case, it would (probably) be inappropriate to assign key words to all of the individual images - the list could be possibly 100,000 images in length. A similar situation would arise (in my case) if I would search for "Theatre", or "Fashion & Glamour".

A spin-off of the directory list is that sufficient encoding information would be available to allow the existing Bridge Cache thumb/1024 directories to be browsed even if the actual image directories are off-line. It would even allow adding images to collection lists and permit the browsing of the collections which would be very fine when setting up a collection for a book publication.

In addition, the directory list should provide the full path to the directory, including drive specifications such as:

\\P2\Volume_1\ImageArchive\1042-2012Jan06\TatianaLingerie

which would clearly specify where the director is located (either on the local computer or on the network).

addition: The directory list should be selectable by key word and only the appropriate directories should display. This selection should be persistent on screen for the current invocation of Bridge. It might be nice to have a "selection history" list that would allow you to quickly duplicate a specific selection query.

This would allow for the searching of "all Spruce Meadows" key word and the user could then select, as needed, each directory for bridge display.
