I just upgraded to El Capitan and Adobe Bridge camera downloader can no longer detect a Canon 5D Mark III or a 5D Mark II. Apple's Photos wants to do the downloading.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Looks like El Capitan broke Photo Downloader in Adobe Bridge CS6 (v.5.0.2.4).
Ever since I upgraded my iMac from OSX 10.10.5 to 10.11, Photo Downloader in Bridge cannot detect my camera (EOS 7D).
It does detect a card reader.
As I had made a clone (Carbon Copy Cloner) before the OSX upgrade, I was able to boot from my external HD (still running OSX 10.10.5) and guess what. Photo Downloader does detect my camera:
So, although I have alternatives to get my photos from camera (Apple's Image Capture also does the trick), I want to report this and ask whether it will be fixed.
Thanks in advance.

There was a change made a change to the protocol for connecting to devices in El Capitan. The Bridge team is working with our partners to address this issue.

So what happens for folks who's camera's don't have a way to manually switch modes? I have a Canon 7D and as far as I can tell, there's no way to switch in between the modes.

Why hasn't there been any new information about this issue from Adobe in the past 3-4 months???

I'm actually really surprised that a class action law suit hasn't been filed yet against these two companies. (Or perhaps it has). My attorney says there's quite a liability here with their lack of reaction to the issue affecting so many customers.

Any news on this issue? Just started using Bridge CC, but it was a dud - can't do Step 1 - download from my canon 5D (CF Card doesn't fit in the iMac). Rather not buy a card reader.

time to find another app that is professional . Hey Adobe CEO's, guess what, professionals use to use your bridge but now it's just a piece of amateur crap.
besides the camera issues with mac , try adding the 'search engine' to the problems. I have spent months with keywords, etc and now all of a sudden it can seem to find anything and I get no search results. it use to work. thanks for not supporting us anymore. what are your professional options for people. Oh and lightroom, what joke. I cannot find any images in folders because - oh , you can only see images with the app - really ? That's why i was on a mac originally so i can get all the way down to basic folders and images, but that's changing too it seems. I need a professional system and apps that was around in the year 2000.

I'm using Image Capture on the Mac for the time being. Cannot import directly into the new Photos program any way, since that does not distinguish between RAW and JPG. I shoot in both, but keep my RAWs far away from 'software for the rest of us'.

Surely this fault should have been identified during the beta testing with OS-X 10.11, which I assume a world class developer like Adobe was involved in, and should not be imposed on users when they upgrade. I can't even import from a card reader.

Using Mac with OS-X 10.11 (El Capitan) a SD card inserted in a Lexar SD/CF card reader appears in Finder. However, when I use Bridge CC 2015 (6.1.1.10) to Get Photos from Camera, Photo Downloader fails to detect the SD card even when Refresh List is selected. The Apple Photo app had initially opened but the checkbox to stop was ticked and the app closed. I had to use Bridge's 'Copy To' option to read the images from the card

I also have the same problem as James. Since downloading El Capitan, Bridge does not recognise either my Nikon or Canon cameras and insists on automatically opening in Photo. I am not a happy bunny.

I thought I would follow up my previous comments made over the past 9 months to say that owing to the complete lack of customer support from Adobe regarding the problems with their Downloader, I am severing my connections with them forever. I paid £600 a couple of years ago for CS6 and no longer receive any support or updates and as I have now purchased 2 new cameras, I cannot open RAW files without converting them with DNG convertor. I have now downloaded Affinity photo from the Apple Store (special price at the moment) and although early days, appears to do everything I need as a serious amateur photographer. It has no subscription and comes with free software downloads.

I have switched to using Lightroom 6 for handling RAW photos, but it looks like the competition (i.e., DxO Optics Pro) is doing even a better job. And I don't need LR's file management system. I prefer a yyyy/mm/dd structure on an external hard drive.

Thanks Hanspeter and Matt. Yes I have tried inserting an sd card and can open both raw and JPEG files but firstly photo opens by default. I suppose I will have to put up with this until Adobe resolve the problem.

Have just found a work around to stop photo opening by default. Go to top left hand of Photo screen and uncheck "open photos for this device" I look forward to Adobe resolving the original problem.!!

If you are talking about Apple Photos (the substitute for iPhoto), I must disappoint you. That only works for (the camera with) that particular memory card. If you use different memory cards, you will have to do this for each card; and further, if you format your card, Photos will be launched again. If it is that problem, I suggest that you check the Apple Support Communities, subforum: Photos.

I'm using Bridge CC 2017, the new El Capitan 10.11.6, and I HAVE been able to get Photo Downloader to launch without clicking the "Get photos from camera" button (in Bridge)—but it still does NOT auto-launch either Bridge, or the Photo Downloader automatically when a card is inserted into my computer.
Behavior attained:
If is insert a camera card, then launch Bridge, Photo downloader is open and waiting for me to process my camera card/images.
And, it's with a great deal of effort and geekness I've achieved this meager victory:
Set the Bridge Preference to: General: Behavior: "When a Camera is Connected, Launch Adobe Photo Downloader."
Then:
I've pasted the following text into the Terminal App (to turn off any Apple App from trying to pre-process my camera card images, e.g. Photos App or Image Capture:
defaults -currentHost write com.apple.ImageCapture disableHotPlug -bool YES
Then press Enter.
Next, I locate my actual Bridge App, Control-click on the App (NOT the folder), choose "Show Package Contents," open MacOS, and make an alias of "Photo Downloader" TO MY DESKTOP.
Then I open Apple's Image Capture App, and set my Default "Import To" button (at bottom Left) to Browse: Desktop: Photo Downloader. Close all. The Desktop Alias may now be removed.
Relaunch Bridge, with a camera card or camera connected.
The Photo Downloader will auto-launch in seconds after opening Bridge.
Adobe needs to solve this for real.

Bridge CS6 hasn't had an update in years. And Bridge CC hasn't had an update since May.
But we are still working with Apple to figure out what broken/went wrong in the OS 10.11 update.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Bridge CS6 does not detect EOS 5d MkIII after upgrade to Mac OSX - El Capitan.
Since upgrading to 10.11 (subsequently 10.11.1) Mac OSX, Bridge CS6 does not detected my Canon EOS 5D Mk III.
I've always used Bridge to import my photos from cameras so this is a little inconvenient. I see some other users have reported similar problems with their devices but I really expected not to have a problem with a major manufacturer like Canon and their equipment.
Has anyone else experience of this?

Cliff

Same problem.
New Mac Pro, changed default from Photos to Bridge Photo Downloader when I plug in the Canon 5D.
Updated to El Capitan, and defaults were reset to Photos.
Changed it back to Bridge Photo Downloader, but doesn't "see" the camera.
Yet the Mac recognizes the camera in other apps, and recognizes to start Bridge Photo Downloader when camera is plugged in.
I depend on accessing my RAW files when I shoot photos, and it's surprising a glitch of this magnitude hasn't been corrected yet.

I have the same problem with bridge 4, Mac OS 10.11 on an older iMac with my Nikon D3300. This not a camera specific problem. It only started after I upgraded to 10.11. Someone else posted that this an issue between Apple and Adobe. I agree with that based on the variety of reports. Has anyone hit up Apple support or forums ? What's the response there?

The consensus from the Aple forums I have seen is that Adobe had the specs of El Capitan long before it was released and that it is for Adobe to address and resolve the issue. As far as I'm concerned both of them need to fix this between them and given the amount of people reporting this problem I don't understand why it takes them so long to fix it.

While Adobe did test early betas of MacOS 10.11 and notified Apple of the bugs found, Apple has not yet fixed all the bugs introduced in MacOS 10.11.
Many of the reported downloader problems are due to Apple forcing all connected cameras and memory cards to launch Photos instead of the user chosen applications. We are discussing this issue with Apple and trying to determine how to work around it.

This fault is causing a great deal of extra work downloading and filing images that Downloader used to do automatically. If Adobe are speaking to Apple then get them to put a permanent preference in their stupid Photos app to turn off all automatic attempts to download images. We need Adobe Bridge Downloader working again VERY SOON!

I use PScc (monthly contract), El Cap and have the same problems. Apple is overstepping. Bad sign!
I updated CC (I know, why would this be necessary?!) and installed the latest Bridge.
Bridge now sees my DSLR, all is well but Photo still tries to butt ahead. Annoying. I think I'll send Apple a mouse-click bill.

Sorry Matt only updates for Photoshop and Bridge CC. Those of us that have spent a large amount of cash on CS6 and CS6 Bridge do not get anymore RAW updates. Hopefully however, ALL Adobe customers will soon get a resolution to the downloader problem - it's only taken 5 months to receive no acknowledgements from Adobe !!

I use this workaround, in CS6:*
- Import the images with Apple's Photos app
- Choose File > Export > Export Unmodified Original
- Save the files where you want them
- Navigate to the folder where you saved your images, in Bridge, and choose Tools > Batch rename, then add metadata

You can also use cards that are less than 32GB in your camera and use Bridge as normal. I've been doing this for a month or so now and it works EVERY time so no need to change my workflow!

......well, everyone on this page paid significant amounts of money for this software and Adobe should just make it right!
In a earlier entry; I posted that all of my xerox printers were nonfunctional
after the El Capitan upgrade
Some how, some way, xerox provided the appropriate patches and all is good
Xerox has GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE IN REGARDS TO SOFTWARE UPDATES
as for all the work arounds; we all paid TOO much money to work around
simply, we should just be able to connect our cameras and it should work just like before the update
This is not just a USA issue, this is a global issue and it is time for Adobe to step it up and do the right thing. Adobe has some of the best software on the market, however, the "customer service" is stinks
Adobe is really just hoping everyone will "just go away"

Well... we do know that CS6 is end of the line, so much is clear. But I am pleased to say that those who still trust Adobe and have signed to have their bank accounts milked every month for the rest of their lives (has anyone tried to get out of that life-long sentence? I know people who did try) still have not got a solution after all this time. I am sure my decision back then was right.

Yes, it was paid for but Bridge has been around for several years and you have to expect that at some point in time, suppliers will decide not to support or develop a product any further. I am not saying that it was Adobe have done in this instance and I hope they do fix this problem but paying for software does not guarantee that it will always work or be developed further..

I could not agree more with Andrew who shares my sentiments totally. I would however disagree with Cliff. Yes, we paid over £600 a few years ago, but would expect still to be able to use CS6 fully after this short time. And what about those unfortunate customers who decided to pay Adobe MONTHLY for CC - perhaps time to stop those direct debits - that will make Adobe sit up and perhaps start thinking of their customer base !!

has anyone tried to get out of that life-long sentence?@Les Cornwall -- Yes, the company I was working for had tried to get out after they were done with the project for which they acquired CC. What it finally took was a letter from the corporate attorney to get the automatic debits to stop.

Some of us have very new, high performance cameras that require top speed cards, which are only available in 64GB or higher.
It's lame but what I've done is to use my 64+GB high speed cards as desired, then use Finder to drop the contents onto a Temp folder on my desktop, then split the contents so that each portion is not larger than 32GB, then save each portion to a 32Gb card, and then use Adobe Photo Downloader normally.
Does anyone know of another Photo Downloader app for Max OS X 10.11.4 that has the Automatic Create Folder by Shot Date feature? It's essential for me.
Thanks.

Hi, my camera isn't recognised in the El Capitan upgrade. I don't always understand the high tech language on many forums so I often need to go to the Apple store to fix it It really annoys me when each time I'm upgraded something changes and often something goes wrong. Apple who will tell me why I need this wonderful upgrade. Or is it the adobe/apple war again, which is like a bad marriage, stuck. Most frustrating. Cari

Is this an Adobe problem or a Mac OSX problem? What camera are you shooting with? You surely have Image Capture on your Mac; does that recognize your camera?

it is most definitely an Adobe problem, not an Apple one. The only workaround I can find is to import with my Mac's Image Capture to a new folder, then use Bridge to rename by shot date. Really incredible that they've just left their customers hanging, after spending many hundreds of dollars, I expect more.

The easiest and simplest workaround is to unplug the memory card and insert it into a card reader then simply use "get images from camera" in bridge. As I've stated multiple times the only issues is SD cards >32Gb which are still a problem.
For these cards only I simply create the necessary folder in finder open a second finder window and simply select images off the card and drag them to the required folder.
Yes this should be fixed by Apple but it's not a massive inconvenience more of an irritant.

Hi Duke, I wish that were so, but when i choose that it simply brings up the same photo downloader that does not recognize my iphone (where before it always did). It just says "None Detected" on the Get Photos From pull-down, and beneath that it says "No Device Found" -- Apple reps have told me that it is an Adobe problem, and Adobe has even said they are working on it....months ago, so who knows. I'm just glad I can batch rename folders with shot date in Bridge since I cannot directly import with Bridge's importer as I used to, it has so many more options than the minimalist Apple Image Capture. But I've been attempting too many times and in different ways, and it simply won't see my device.

For every message posted across all forums and support problems, there are probably hundreds who just don't know how to post and are suffering in silence.
Problems like these have been reported in PREVIOUS versions of Bridge and Organizer.
Please provide an update to all Bridge and Organizer with what the heck you are doing and when it will be fixed.
You have a slew of users who would do testing for you.
