Lightroom 3.6 for Mac - Borderless printing is not working.
Have set up a custom paper size, have adjusted my cell size to match the paper with zero margins. The print comes out with a 2 to 3 mm white border. Have visited various forums to solve the problem but cannot get rid of the white border.

It is my understanding that borderless printing is a function of the specific printer you are using from it's firmware ... not a function of the software used to print the image. I have not found a way to print borderless on custom sizes I create, only those offered by the printer natively ...

If I am wrong on this point, I will gladly accept the information to use to print custom borderless sizes ... :)

David,

It might help us to know which printer you are using and what the custom size is you are trying to print to.

I am using an Epson R1900, according to the Epson tech specs the print margin can be set to 0mm for top, left, right and bottom via the custom settings in printer driver - otherwise there will be a 3mm margin.
I have set up a custom paper size of 145mm x 228mm as a template.
I am trying to print borderless on the right hand half of my template an image 145mm x 114mm so I can fold the paper in half as a greetings card.
I have the printer driver for non-printable area set to - user defined 0mm left, right, top, & bottom. I have the Lightroom Layout settings as 0.00cm margins on the 3 sides I want borderless. I have the cell size set to 11.4cm x 14.5cm.
When I print I get a white border and the cell size on paper is 11cm x 14.1cm which is approx 2mm smaller than the cell size set on the screen.

I cannot speak to the Epson driver but I can relate what Canon thinks about it.

My Canon printers will accept a custom paper size. They will also allow me to set the printing to borderless in the print driver. As far as my testing goes, it is not possible to do both. If I select borderless, it requires that I select a paper size from a reduced number of paper size choices. If I don't select borderless I have access to many more paper sizes as well as custom.

Whether that relates to your Epson issue or not is unclear.

To test, what happens if you use a standard size sheet and a matching print driver setting? Do you still get a white border?

If I stick to a standard paper size, I have no problem getting what I want.

Looks like Epson is the same, I just printed Borderless ok on a sheet of 10cm x 15cm paper, the printer driver shows 2 options for this size of paper, one normal and one (sheet feeder borderless), I selected the sheet feeder borderless option.

Lightroom layout then let me set the margins to 0 and the cell size to 10 x 15cm and it printed borderless.

So is this a problem with Lightroom or the Epson Printer Driver.
When I unsuccessfully printed on my custom paper Lightroom was allowing me to set 0 margins and the correct Cell size but it was printing smaller than the settings it was showing.

At least I now know the limitations of these custom paper sizes. I may see if there is an Epson forum where I can ask about custom paper sizes.

Thanks for your help.
