Lightroom Classic 8.0: Book Module bug

Two Bugs in the Book module (so far experienced)-

1. Also experienced by the OP at https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2550633
Edit a page by changing the template for a page with text, enter the text, restart Lightroom- the page has not changed or updated.
Even exiting the Book module back to Library before shutting down does not save the changed page.
This is 'Before'-

This is the change-

This is the "Result' - after restarting Lightroom-

2. Several of my 'large' books (>200pages) that have been printed by Blurb, will not show many of photos in the Book module. Some photos appear at random, but the Book design is basically trashed. I have tried opening Catalog backups but the problem remains.

We tried to replicate the issue but the issue is not reproducible. Could you please provide a screen recording for this?

Thanks

In my case the problem arises just when I created a new catalog (v8.0), after this moment all changes on the book module are lost. I think you have to investigate why the form with the resizing request no longer appears after you choose to change the format of the book
I do not know if the problem was also present in version 7.5
it seems to me that everything started precisely after the creation of the new catalog.
With version 7.5 I had made some changes to the books and everything seemed to work correctly.

Is it possible for u to share the catalog in which you are facing the problem with us.This would help us in investigating the issue.

Hi there,

Same issue here.

There ́s no way to avoid losing any changes done to books in the Book Module after the update. This betrayes the entire purpose of editing a book in which you might want to look at it and "edit" more than once.

Same issue here. I updated to Lightroom Classic 8.0, then saved a book I had been working on for some time. I found mistakes in the the book and fixed the mistakes. Next time I opened Lightroom all my changes were gone. I repeated this several times. A few of the types of changes I made after saving the book was fixing mis-spelling in the page or photo text, added new page or photo text, and resized images. Very frustrating. Please help.

Similar issues with Lightroom Classic CC v7.5 on El Capitan: "saved a book I had been working on for some time ... fixed mistakes ... Next time I opened Lightroom all my changes were gone. I repeated this several times."
Affects changes to page order, photos on page, and text.
Will have to give up using Book module unless there is a fix or workaround!

I too have a problem with Lightroom 8.0 Book Module, which does not save changes or addition since I updated to version 8.0 a couple of days ago. I have  created and published a number of books with Lightroom/Blurb and never had this problem. It seems clear that there is a serious bug in the new version of Lightroom v. 8.0. I hope Adobe can fix this quickly!

I uninstalled v8.0 and went back to v7.5 to finish my book. All worked great at 7.5. I’ll wait for a fix to 8.0 before I update again.

I have also the issue as mentioned below but for me not all the changes etc age gone meaning the book doesnt go back to zero every time only some changes here and there not saved which makes it very difficult to identify them when you open the book again

Similar here.  The book I was working on just quit remembering any changes I made after a certain point.  I never lost the entire book but all work after a certain point was lost over and over.

I have the same problem.  I am trying to create some photo-books to give as Christmas presents, but I keep losing my modifications.  Is there any chance this bug will be fixed before December or should I move on to different software to create my photo-books?

I'm having an online chat with someone at Adobe now.  I have convinced her that the catalog that I backed up does not contain the book that I completed (and backed up as soon as I had completed it).  On her advice, I have gone back a version of Lightroom and reinstalled that.  I have started to create the book again, closed Lightroom, with a backup and then reopened it.  The book is there.  The agent said that she would report the problem but had no idea when it would be fixed.

For the Book Module work, I have reloaded the previous version of Lightroom (v.7.5), and it seems to work ok. I will use this version until Adobe fixes the problem with the Book Module. Since the previous work was stored in the catalogue, I was able to continue working on the book I had started.

"We have few queries:
1. Is this issue reproducible with a new catalog.
2. Is this issue reproducible on 7.5 as well."

Re: the pages not saving-
My Classic v8.0 seems to have now corrected itself for the problem of the page not saving. And tested a new catalog which does 'save' page changes.
I have stayed with v8.0 so I cannot say for sure, but I had produced books with v7.5 and never saw this problem.

OTOH- My second problem of blank pages noted in the first post- in a couple of 'large' books, they remain with many blank pages.

I too am having this problem.
After loosing many hours of work I then tested it a couple of different ways:
1- starting a new book from scratch- it continued to not save changes
2- removing a page at a time (to see if there was a corrupt page within the book) then leave the book and come back into it - this would effectually remove the picture, that was on the page, but not remove the whole page as I had commanded. I then tried to add the picture back in, leave the book, then come back, and the picture was still not on the page but the page remained. Therefore it was saving any changes that were the removal of pictures, but not saving page removals nor page/image additions.
3- exporting the book before leaving the book module in case the program needed a manual reminder that I wanted to 'secure' this version of the book. Even then it would save the export correctly, but then if I left the book module and came back (after exporting) the changes I had made were no longer there. So exporting before saving did nothing to help save changes within the book.
4- I wished there was a manual way to save!
5- I tried saving as a new book (duplicating) after making changes, but those changes did not appear within the duplicate
6- I tried duplicating my book and then going into the duplicate and deleting all the pages. After leaving the duplicate and coming back, all the images were gone but the pages remained with the assigned layout frames as before- minus the pictures. (I am VERY afraid to go back in to my original book, as I'm afraid that my actions within the duplicate SOMEHOW transferred over to the original)
7- Please help!~ thanks.

I especially agree with your point 4. It seems crazy that there is not a save or update book button. I am having all the same problems with a 145 page book containing 167 photos. VERY frustrating !!

That's great.
However, having worked in IT for 30 years its seems like a fairly fundamental requirement in testing got missed here. If there is no 'save' item/button and the system is supposed to 'autosave' then it probably should be tested to ensure it does exactly that.
Please go ahead a refund the $'s for this month's subscription since I have wasted so much time, and cannot use the book module until a fix is released.

Same issue.  LR Classic v8.  Losing all my edits.  Reverts to PDF version (rather than Blurb) and jumps to same page in middle of book.  No matter what I try to do.  ALL RECENT EDITS ARE LOST!  Need resolution soon.

I have just started with a book project and have also problems now with the book module, never had any problems like this in earlier LR versions but now every time I close LR it is loosing some edits, I am not sure how I can ever finish this book like that. You never know what has ben messed up since last session, I just notice stuff like double pages deleted pictures etc

Really hope this will be fixed soon

I hope soon.  I have been struggling with this thinking I was doing something wrong for some time now.  It is interesting that sometimes the changes will flash as if there for a second on the load but then are gone no matter where I look.

Question:  For those that reverted back to the prior version (7.5), were there any ramifications in other work done within Lightroom?

For me it would also be very interesting to know if going back to 7.5 will really fix the problem, is there any proof of that?

I posted on 31-Oct-18 about problems with the Book Module in 7.5 similar to those people are experiencing with version 8, so it seems "your mileage may vary" if you roll back.

It is certainly quite annoying that at the very point where Adobe get a guaranteed income through subscription payments they release software with a serious flaw, I speak as a happy user of Lightroom from 2010!!

My requirements are fairly simple and I'm just making a maquette, so I've gone to powerpoint; going back to a previous version seems to daunting.

I have another bug with this new 8.0.  When synching the picture folders it has quadruplicated all the pictures I had chosen for the book I was working on.  this is on top of it not saving any of the titles I put on as well.  it appears that each time you close or move off the book it replicates all the picture files in the library but does not save any of the titles.  what a mess.  I see no easy way to fix the problem.   Instead of having only 472 pictures I now have 3174 yet on the drive the correct number appears.

I think the problems are related.  Having used Lightroom since inception I saw this issue back in the very old days and think the book saving module may be the cause because interestingly if one deletes the extra pictures from the library file they also disappear from the book module.  I just closed LR again after making a fix to put back some of the deleted test pictures in my book module and the file duplicated again.  Geeeze...

I did a book of about 150 pages back the first part of October and didn't have any issues of not saving the change. But working on one yesterday, it ignored or deleted several changes to point I'm wondering if it's even worth attempting to do. I've redone the same pages about three times and each time it ups the count on the photo being used...now showing 3 buy it's not in the book! It seems to be random, it saved some pages with text but it seems to have a problem adding a two page spread. Using existing ones seem to work. What a pain!

I had the same issue as noted in my post above.  in my case I have 200 pages and 472 pictures working with and each time I made a change and/or closed LR it duplicated everything to the point I now have 3100 pictures in the library copy of the file.  Used to love making books here but this is a mess.  Do hope they come out with a fix.  I did receive an email from someone ccd below indicating a fix was being worked on but not sure if it is real since have not heard anything further.

Hi,

I am from Lightroom Classic team. You have been facing the issue with Book module with Lightroom Classic CC 8.0 as you have shared on the feedback.photoshop.com thread “Lightroom Classic 8.0: Book Module bug”. We have attempted fix for the issue and we would like you to test it, if you would be interested.

If you are interested in testing the fix, then we would send you an invite to the Lightroom’s Prerelease program. You would require to accept the NDA to access the build with the fix.

Could you please let us know would be interested in testing the fix?

 Thanks

Mayuri

Book Module in CC Classic v.8 with Mojave has been working fine until yesterday. Now it's freezing when I try to enter text or else placing it on a previous page, zoom to fit cell isn't working (though I can zoom manually) and it isn't saving changes. those are just the issues I've noticed. This book is for me, so I'm not losing money, but it's frustrating!
