It would be nice to see a Bokeh smoothener filter in Photoshop. It will automatically detects out of focus parts and circle of confusion created by the lens and smoothen them. Also, the blurrier the out of focus parts, the more gaussian blur applied. This makes the picture more pleasant without those hard circle of confusions.

That wouldn't be easy, since different lenses produce very different bokeh shapes, and out of focus is a very fuzzy (pardon the pun) concept.

A point light blurred to a circle on a dark background is easy. But what about speckled lights on a pale background? Or the donut shape of a mirror lens? Or triangle, pentagon, octagonal blades, etc.?

Some metric might be defined for "how sharp is this area", then that could be used as a mask. But detecting varied camera blur automatically is probably a long ways off.

Yeap, maybe not now. I've seen some sharpening algorithm that sharpens sharp area and blurs blur area.
