Batch process w. PS CS6 Image Processor leaves processed files open

When running a batch process with Image Processor, if one switches away from Photoshop CS6, the application will leave processed files open while the process is still running. The attached images illustrate this after I switched away from photoshop then back again, away from photoshop and back again. You will notice the number of open files has compounded from each time we switch away.

Eventually, when Image Processor finishes it's job, the files will then close. However, I believe RAM and the CPU processor are taxed more because these files are not closed.

My system:
OS X 10.6.8
Photoshop CS6 v13.0 x64
MacPro 3.33ghz 8core

Addendum:
This definitely also happens if the display goes into screensaver mode. I just returned to the desktop from screensaver and about a hundred files were open, while Image Processor was still running. Process and RAM is also bogged down, have difficulty switching between applications now.
